This appears to be rolling "targeted" $200 travel credit for travel expenses booked directly through AmEx Travel. This offer will be added by more and more Platinum cardholders. It is uncertain what the criteria to when this offer will be added. It appears eventually all Platinum cardholders will receive this credit offer.

Terms of $200 travel statement credit:

For eligible Platinum Card Accounts that renew April 2020 through July 2020, this offer will be available starting August 1, 2020. For eligible Platinum Card Accounts that renew August 2020 through March 2021, this offer will be available starting on the first day of your Card renewal month.

When you book travel through American Express Travel online at amextravel.com or by calling the number on the back of your Platinum Card, you can earn up to $200 in statement credits for eligible travel purchases made with your eligible Platinum Card. You must have a booking with American Express Travel, made on or after the offer start date with your eligible Platinum Card, for your purchase(s) to be eligible for the credit. Statement credit(s) may not be received or may be reversed if the eligible purchase(s) or booking(s) are returned or cancelled. Both booking(s) and charge(s) for eligible travel must be made by 12/31/2021 to receive the credit(s). Eligible travel purchases include purchases of airfare, hotel, flight + hotel packages, cruise reservations, car rentals, and tours made with your eligible Platinum Card, minus returns and other credits. Eligible travel purchases do NOT include purchases of timeshare properties, group reservations or events, ticketing services, cancellation or other fees, interest charges, purchases of travelers checks, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, or purchases of other cash equivalents. Purchases by Additional Card Members are not eligible for statement credits. Credits or rewards you may receive with your Card on other purchase categories or in connection with promotions or offers from American Express may not be combined with this offer.

Please allow up to 90 days after an eligible purchase is posted to your Card Account for statement credit(s) to be posted to the Account. Call the number on the back of your Card if statement credit(s) have not posted by that time. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as eligible for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit(s). To be eligible for this offer, you must have a US consumer Platinum Card that was solicited for this offer. To continue to be eligible for the offer, you must maintain the Platinum Card that was solicited for this offer for the full offer period, or until you have earned and received the full amount of the offer credit if sooner. To receive the credit(s) your Platinum Card Account(s) must be not canceled and not past due at the time of statement credit(s) fulfillment. If a charge for an eligible purchase is included in a Pay Over Time feature balance on your Card Account, the statement credit associated with that charge may not be applied to that Pay Over Time feature balance. Instead, the statement credit may be applied to your Pay In Full balance.

American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc., when acting solely as a sales agent for travel suppliers, is not responsible for the actions or inactions of such suppliers. If we in our sole discretion determine that you have engaged in abuse, misuse, or gaming in connection with the offer in any way or that you intend to do so, we may not credit the offer to, we may freeze the offer credited to, or we may take away the offer from your Account.

Still a little bit confused, is this a one-time credit, or I can use it for multiple purchases?

Booked a hotel around $125, and the tracker showed $75 remaining to use and the credit posted quickly, then on the following day, the tracker was gone and the block says: "You've received $200 in travel credits."

Thanks!

im sure its a glitch. the credit works like the airline credits. multiple purchases count. just keep an eye on it.

Unhappy Am Ex Platinum $200 Travel Credit

If anyone has the link link to the actual Am Ex $200 Travel Credit info/offer could you please post it? Am Ex CS knows nothing about any of this--at least the ones I have talked to do not. They want a link to read for themselves.
(I was told via phone conversation that offer would appear in my account after renewal back in Oct, but it has never shown up. So trying to track it down-- but pretty difficult when Am Ex's own people are not aware of it!)

This offer is targeted, meaning there can not be a link accessible to everyone. But all details have been generously shared throughout this thread. Full terms can be found in Post 35, Post 39, Wikipost, etc...

login to your amex account and try to book travel.

See if you find any advert screens describing the $200 offer. I saw this today when booking travel at Amex.

I'm looking for some creative ideas on how to use the platinum card $200 credit for booking through Amex Travel. I have a trip coming up but had to book flights direct from Delta (so I can use eCredits) and hotel direct at Marriott (as I used a corporate rate and need to make sure I earn points and get nights credit towards status). I don't plan to get a rental car. So what's left? This is Orlando/Disney. Can I buy park tickets through Amex?

Thanks.

The only thing I can think of is if you are traveling as a family, maybe book another room (adjoining room) through AMEX at the same hotel so your family will have two rooms/suites for extra room. Just a thought. Can't think of anything else.

Reading the fine print, "Eligible travel purchases include purchases of airfare, hotel, flight + hotel packages, cruise reservations, car rentals, and tours made with your eligible Platinum Card, minus returns and other credits." and then there is a list of excluded categories including "ticketing services" so even if park tickets are sold by them, it would not count.

Given the generosity of current airline policy, I suppose could buy a airline ticket then sometime later cancel it for the eCredit that will be held by the airline for future use (or until it expires, currently most airlines have them extended to end of 2022). Given I have until end of the year to trigger this benefit I can wait a while to decide.

That's what I did with mine. Stored it as an e-credit for future use. Because when it came out (August 2020) wasn't many flights going anywhere I wanted to go due to covid.

April 1: $278 American Airlines ticket purchased

April 5: $200 credit applied to my Platinum card

Would have bought a more expensive ticket fully at my own expense had I not used the Amex travel portal instead for options - $78 net for one-way First Class ticket Florida - Boston!

I just checked my Amex bill and i had a $170 credit and a $30 credit (went to Vegas last week and booked first class on American and a hotel through Amex Fine hotels. Up until a few min ago i had no idea why i was given $170 (i understand the $30 because it was to deposit miles for another flight), but no idea what the $170 is. I was about to call and ask what this was for but after reading this, it's either the hotel or partial reimbursement of the American First class ticket. Who knows....

Where do those credits show as the merchant issuing the refund? My Amex travel credit shows as American Airlines itself not the agency, although they show as the original merchant!

In that case, the system recognized your ticket purchase as a qualifying transaction. It seems odd to me, but the ticket gets charged to Amex travel, with the Platinum credit applied directly from the airline, as separate merchants.

Or could it be the yearly $200 in pre determined airline credit for fees, seats, etc ??
