Here is a link about the change.

Was already debating getting rid of this card. This is now an EASY decision to get rid of it.

I like their math, you can get a maximum of $300 a year for dining at $25 per month maximum. Disconnecting the hotel card from being hotel rewarding.

The card has other hotel rewards. I imagine their data indicates that many cardholders use the card only to pay for Marriott hotel stays. This is a gambit to get them to put the card in their wallets more often, on the chance it will also be used for other transactions.

The $25/mo on food is now a bit annoying but with ApplePay and GrubHub/UberEats, etc., the card can still be used each month and still doesn't need to be physically carried around!

My card had been sockdrawered all year until I needed to meet minimum spend for a retention bonus ($2,000 charitable donarion) and had a Marriott stay. It will remain in Apple Pay for the $25 and I will use the physical card at Marriotts

This change is bad. Another food credit to account for every month. Ugh.
At least till the next AF hits I can get a few months of $25 credit. Then we'll see if they offer a retention offer ... or I can downgrade to the $95 card but with LT status ... the 15 nights are really only helping to get to the 75 night 'extra 5 SNAs'

This is food for thought. Do you know if both cards get a FNC at the same level?

The best play if one wanted to off ramp, would be to wait for the 50k cert to post from the Brilliant, and then downgrade. You'd pay 2/12 of the Brilliant AF due to the lag between anniversary and getting it, but get one last 50k cert. This is what I will likely be doing. I have no real interest in keeping this card with the planned changes.

It looks I originally was approved for the SPG Luxury Card in August. My next Bonvoy stay is in Sep, so that should work well to get one last $300 credit before it goes away. I also noticed that the dining credits are good at worldwide restaurants unlike the temporary ones that were only valid at US restaurants. Id still rather have the Marriott credit, but at least that makes it slightly more useful.

The $95 AF card gets a 35k FNC, same as the $95 Chase Bonv0y card.

My annual fee just hit - not planning on staying at a Marriott before the change to restaurant credit -
