DP: Bought a physical gift card last week. Transaction and credit posted even before the card arrived in the mail.

Poor experience trying to buy a Marriott gift card.

Tried to buy $300 gift card plus $1 shipping. Got to check out - clicked Complete Purchase and got in fairly fine print on the screen "Payment transaction failed" and noticed I had not clicked I'm not a Robot by mistake.

Checked the box - got the same Payment transaction failed message - but did promptly get 2 emails from Amex Your Card may not have been present for a purchase both for $301 and 2 pending charges from Amex for $301. Completely unhelpful to call the Marriott gift card number - and Amex was unhelpful as well - saying, it should drop from pending - call us if it doesn't.

I wanted the physical gift card - the order was never completed and I'm sitting with 2 pending charges on my Amex account - I suspect it will drop off tomorrow (hopefully)

A question for people buying gift cards: is there any reason to do physical over e-gift?

Not that I can tell. I've done GC maybe 3 times now and all e-GC without a problem. Of course, this was the last one

Cheers.

Thanks!

Does anyone know if this exclusion is new?

"Online purchases of Marriott branded gift cards do not qualify as eligible purchases for this benefit."

I likely won't have a chance to use on property before the 22nd of September and none of the hotels near me sell gift cards. I'm just concerned that they may claw back the credit if that's meant to be a new exclusion.

Switching to restaurant credits

So if you buy the gift card prior to the restaurant switch, that means you've used up all $300 credit and will not receive any restaurant credits, correct? Or if I use $150 marriott credit prior to the switch I'll get $150 restaurant credits with $25/month?

I used all $300 hotel credit. It's my understanding that I will get the $25 restaurant credit/month when it begins no matter whether I used or did not use the hotel credit.
SPN Lifer, eh9 and dollar like this.

I recently product changed to the brilliant from amex bonvoy. My original anniversary date is Sept 12 and I already used up the 300 Marriott bonus. Will I get an additional 300 to use on Sept 12th for the 10 days before it switches to the dining credit? Thanks

You will get both the hotel credit AND the dining credit, regardless of how much you used. So use the entire 300 hotel credit and then start getting the restaurant credit

Anyone know how quickly the $300 Marriott credit posts? I’ve got some stays lined up for mid-September, but not sure if both the stay and credit will post by the 22nd.

The charge date is the one that matters, make sure you check out prior to 9/22 and you should be fine
