My Gold card MR points go to my Plat account. My card is up to renewal next month so I'm going to phone and cancel ($699 is way too much!) and if they don't offer me a nice retention bonus I will have to cancel. Will my MR points survive since I have the gold card? Do I need to worry or should I just move them to Aeroplan or SPG or somewhere else?
Thanks
Thanks

AMEX will know your balance all the way in the backend even if online linkage/display breaks, no worries
I'd transfer out only if they're small amounts

Hi,
Looking to get the Platinum card but still hesitating between the regular one and the Aeroplan one..
For info: Based in YQB, flying mostly from there and YUL... Mostly travelling in NA.
I tried to find a clear comparaison between the two in topics and didn't find much... Seems that the principal thing is MLL vs Priority pass? Marco Polo Gold not available anymore... Hotel benefits... And a 10k more points that I can transfer to AP...
Thanks,
Dolphin2

if i find a deal on itravel200 or selloff vacation, can i ask the american express to offer the same deal or match the price? and also if i book a cruise trip for next year, i use the 200 travel credit of 2014. then after jan 01 next year, i use another 200 travel credit to book air ticket for the same trip. will that be ok?

60k signup for plat vs 51k signup for aeroplat.
60k is Membership rewards which is much more flexible.
Plat has 2 x $200 travel credits, aeroplat has none
Plat has hotel elite status benefits, aeroplat has none.
Only benefit aeroplat has is the 2 for 1 short haul partner ticket, ac lounge benefit, and priority check in.
The only reason why you'd apply for aeroplat is if you fly ac a lot. otherwise the aeroplan gold with 30k bonus and waived annual fee is a much better choice, and platinum for singup bonus and benefits.

You can ask, but I doubt AMEX would match.Originally Posted by jamesxie63

I would get the regular Plat card because of the $200 credit plus better benefits as mentioned above.Originally Posted by Dolphin2

Do you have any status with Air Canada? The AeroPlat card gives you lounge access and access to priority check-in... both benefits were very useful to me before I obtained status with Air Canada.Originally Posted by Dolphin2

If you already have status with Air Canada or even some other *A partner, then I agree with the others -- the regular Plat is a much better card.

However, one should also review the new TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege and CIBC Aerogold Visa Infinite Privilege as potential options to the Amex Aeroplat. Annual fee is $399 for both Visas.

Right, but this isn't the Visa forum Originally Posted by Clipper801

Seriously, those cards are interesting because you get priority boarding and a free checked bag but give up lounge access. And you need a > $200k household income to apply.

The total lack of a decent sign up bonus and only 1.25X miles for $399!???Originally Posted by Clipper801

50K+ and 1.5X miles, now it's interesting.

You need to compare the different features between the CIBC/TD Visas and the Amex Aeroplat cards.Originally Posted by mikeycanuk

Some features offered by the CIBC/TD Visa Infinite Privilege at $100 cheaper annual fee are unavailable with Amex Aeroplat card. A major consideration for those who do not have higher status with AC Altitude.
I'm coming from a perspective of earning the most miles. We only travel twice a year.
