If you have checked baggage, consider "pre booking" your baggage on Air Asia. It's cheaper than paying at the airport which also restricts to 20kgs. only if at the airport. Excess baggage fee applies if over 20 kgs at HK$120/kg.
Cabin baggage weight may not exceed 7 kgs.
Some of the pitfalls for flying a discount airline.
BTW hope you will be staying a few days in H.K. as there is no interline between AC and Air Asia. You have to go through immigration, collect your bag, clear custom and excise and walk over to Terminal 2 check-in area (from the main building aka T1) to check in for your Air Asia flight. Then re-enter departure immigration and security check.

There was one report here that the Canadian Amex Plat will also get you into PPL landside arrival lounge near T2. However, it is not listed in both Priority Pass and Canadian Amex Plat web sites as a benefit.

T2 is better described as a check-in area although it is called T2. Your flight will depart from T1. The Priority Pass that comes with the Canadian Amex Plat will get you into both airside Plaza Premium Lounges.

Single best thing you can do for that trip is to splash out the $100 each way for "preferred seats" (usually bulkhead or exit-row) on the YYZ-HKG legs.
Think of it as about $9/hr for a considerably more comfortable flight.
You can definitely apply the $200 Amex Plat Travel credit towards this.
If you haven't booked yet, also keep an eye on the fact that Premium Economy is only about $150 more than Economy, per leg, if you connect through YVR.

You may only use lounges that have arrangements with Amex Platinum or Priority Pass. Read the information materials that come with the card or log into the Canadian Platinum web site.

More than one from the previous page. If you have the proper printed brochure or downloaded it when it was available online, it's there.

Showing up with a stale brochure/pamphlet will unlikely going to work.
I shall write to PPL to confirm whether Canadian American Express The Platinum card or the Priority Pass may access the landside arrival lounge at HKG without charge. That's probably the best to clarify. I shall post again when I shall receive a reply.

question about travel insurance. before I book any flight, hotel etc, I'd like to know which card is the best to cover travel insurance? AE platinum, AE gold, AE gold aeroplan, CIBC aerogold?

I wonder if we complain enough, maybe we'll get them to permit access again?

Are you talking about medical, or other insurance, such as interruption, cancellation, lost baggage etc? Are you booking on points, or paid/cash rates? Amex Plat has the best if you're doing cash/paid stays, IIRC.

Otherwise, if paying 'cash' for an airline ticket, they all stack up pretty equally... some have more of one thing and less another

I am not using points. I just like to know if I use AE platinum or gold to pay for my trips (air, hotel etc.), do I still have to buy any travel related insurance? which card has better coverage?
