I'm not sure if I can give AA a pass on this based on access to other clubs. AA has its own flyers and should provide lounges for those flyers (especially at the hubs) since the other lounges are beyond their control - we've all heard of eligible pax being turned away at these lounges repeatedly (not lately, which is nice), they could close for renovations, etc. AA knows how many FL-eligible seats they fly though LAX every day, and there has to be some algorithm that they use to estimate the number of CK and OW Sapphires and Emeralds who may not be in premium seats but have access.

I do spend time in the QF lounge when possible, but it also has its limitations (especially lack of outlets and seating appropriate for working).

On my last trip (after my champagne breakfast visit to the QF lounge) I left the FL for the last hour of my layover and went to the AC which I found to be quieter, cooler, and much more tranquil than the FL. It was shocking how they fought against giving me access to the AC (almost shouting at me to get back to the FL!), even though I also have QF Club membership on top of my premium cabin travel, and when I got in it was almost completely empty.

I know that this wouldn't be popular, but it seems to me that the entire space in T4 should be FL and the T5 space be the AC.

Yes, as well as the OW Business Lounge in TBIT. Access between the lounges is easy using a airside (inside security) walkway. No one would stop you for trying out both if you have enough time.

I'd take the Qantas F lounge over the flagship lounge. I liked the flagship lounge in ORD much better than LAX. ALso the one world lounge in TBIT is better IMHO than the flagship lounge.

they would lose half the local AC members. Even though T5 AC is nicer. Some of my domestic flights are leaving from TBIT.

No, by itself QR J will get you into the oneworld business lounge or AA Flagship Lounge. If you're a oneworld Emerald then you could access the QF F lounge flying LAX-DOH, but not by just business class alone.

AA Flagship Dining serves Krug, the Flagship Lounge does not.

And the Krug in Flagship First Dining will be chilled to the proper temperature. In the Flagship Lounge, the champagne will be barely chilled, just like the white wines on offer. C'mon......buy some ice and chill the wine.....Chicago does.

Agree, the champagne in the LAX FL was not as chilled as the whites this past sunday night. OTOH it was very late. Kinda sad. But it was not prosecco, so there is that.

JFK also started out with having the chillers full of ice... and then for some reason decided to stop and instead use them as (ineffective) refrigerators instead.

American is supposed to file the formal "terminal improvement plan" associated with it's planned $1.4BN rebuild of T4 within the next couple months (although it's already several months late). It will be interesting to see how much lounge space is included in the new plans and if they detail the split between FL and AC.

Flying out of T5 tomorrow evening, but would quite like to check out the Flagship Lounge earlier - is it possible to enter T4 Security and then connect airside through the tunnel? How long does that walk approx. take? Thanks!

Absolutely possible. With a valid BP, you can use any LAX terminal checkpoint. It will take ~ 10 minutes to get from the T4 FL to T5, depending on the pace of your walk.

Per my conversation this past Monday with the manager (Matt) of the LAX Flagship Lounge, there are no drains in the chillers, so they are not going to use ice.

I also asked about sushi, since they still have soy sauce and chopsticks on the buffet. He said AA told him sushi will no longer be offered at the LAX lounge.
Thankfully, there was plenty of cold beef tenderloin; top-notch charcuterie; wedge salad with bacon; and Looplocked Pinot Noir.

The made-to-order lunch station was polenta with toppings, which is in its second consecutive monthly presentation. Hopefully, that will change come April.

Perhaps AA should look to methods used by BA F lounges at LHR or the CX Wing lounge at HKG for how to chill champagne without requiring draining melting ice . It can be done!
