Wed 11/26 - BOS to MIA - #2 on list, only 1 cleared - to be fair, I had used in app upgrades for 4 family members at $150-200/seat
MIA to PLS - both me and companion cleared - me at 48 hours, companion at gate Rolling LP 620k |
RSW-DFW Sunday after Thanksgiving LP ~350k
Upgrades were going for ~$480 until about 4 days before when they dropped to ~$280, then 2 days before dropped to $143.(EF showed J3, and the price jumped to ~$320 30 minutes prior to checkin most likely from an upgrade being processed) #2/12 for 1 seat day of. Due to the inbound coming from ORD and a ~2 hour delay, 1-4 were Upgraded at the gate. |
11/20 - DFW-FCO - #1 on the list Cleared from Y to J after boarding and right before departure. The most pleasant surprise to be pulled up!
12/02 - CDG-DFW - #1 and 2 on list (split PNRs) Cleared at 1.5 hours before departure from Y to J. Husband was cleared from Y to P automatically, too. 12/04 - DFW-CDG cleared at booking in January / February. Has anyone had issues with being able to check in if you’re on the international upgrade list? I consistently cannot check in until I get to the airport, which is a little stressful. I called AA to see if they could see any issues on my account, but they didn’t see anything. |
RSW - LGA Tuesday afternoon LP ~350k
UG at T-27 |
Upgraded at T-26 for 12/03 LAX-SFO - pleasantly surprised. Still waiting on 12/06 SFO-LAX.

Flying with a companion on Friday BOS to ORD (and then MCI) - currently on 5:22 flight with 5J inventory - wouldnt mind moving up to the 405 which has 7J inventory - EP with 625k rolling - best strategy is to try changing 24 hours before the earlier flight i'd like to take? And if me and companion are upgraded before then, might not be worth the risk? Thank you in advance

- split res so my son is with me, my wife on her own. - wife’s upgrade cleared at T24 and she has an assigned seat in FC. - upgrades did not clear for my son and I. can only surmise that there was one seat available and she got it, while we got skipped because of 2 on the reservation. If that is truly the case, would switch our res splitting strategy in the future. have rub into this at the airport when they ask whether you want to split up with one seat available, but first time this has happened to us ahead of time. And not that it should matter because I have a higher status, but I also have more LP than her…. wife said that there was one additional seat showing as available on the seat map (but certainly understand that it doesn’t necessarily indicate one available for upgrade) EDIT: Thought I was replying to a more recent post, but my thoughts would be the same. |

for tomorrows flight, the 4:05 now has 7J inventory, while my booked flight at 5:22 has just 3J inventory - as an EP, I can try to change to the 4:05 right at 24 hours prior, i.e. at the time at the changed flight departure versus my current departure? and presumably i'll have better luck for EP upgrade with that one. Also a dumb question, but in Expert Flyer, why is there a difference in C and J inventory if it's an E75 plane? thank you al

You'll need to wait until 24hrs before your ticketed flight to attempt a Same Day Flight Change. Unfortunately, at that point there's a good chance the 4:05 flight (currently J7) will have already cleared many of its upgrades down to J2 or J1 at roughly 24hrs before departure. You can always try calling now to see what the cost would be just to move to the 4:05 flight while it's still got a good amount of J availability. J and C are just different inventory buckets for the same first class cabin in the case of an E75 aircraft.

much appreciated! It was a mileage booking so I’m guessing I’m SOL but thanks again

In that case, try using the app/website to see what the mileage difference might be to change to the earlier flight. I'm often surprised how little it is to switch award bookings close-in.
