Sunday, 3/9 afternoon
PLT with 102k LP in last qualifying year RSW - CLT: 21/43, 1 cleared at gate CLT - PIT: 12/21, zero cleared |
Flying LAX-BOS on Sunday morning, two passengers on a coach award. The flight is currently F7/J7 and we're 5 days out. Mileage prices for J are still 100k and earlier today they wanted $400 to upgrade (I've been checking regularly and that's the lowest I've seen it -- it's been fluctuating wildly). I'm curious what people think my chances are of getting a comp upgrade?

Looking at Sunday morning LAX-BOS that is what's happening, there's only 3 seats left in J and F is 100% wide open. So in spite of the flight being J7 there's really only 3 seats (or less) left for any Y>J comp upgrades. That also explains why the J award prices are still high. So for 2 pax, your chances for comp upgrades are not great. |
DCA-MIA: cleared at T-25 hours. EP with 240,000 LPs rolling 12 months?

F7/J7 may seem wide open up front, however on the 3-class transcons you always need to cross check the seatmaps as AA will frequently oversell J.

I am purchasing Domestic First Class instead of chancing upgrades at this time. (480,000 LPs)
Domestic, intl, you name it, i have just been horking up the $$. At +400k lp, i couldn’t even use a swu for an up from J to F, SYD>LAX. Seems since I put myself on waitlist 8 mos prior, I didn’t get the buy up offer. |
3/12/25
Barely ExPlat BIL-PHX. E175. Cleared T-100 PHX-FAT. CR7. Cleared T-26 Still batting 1000 on upgrades in 2025. I have a feeling I might record my first out when I fly FAT-DFW next week. |

Yesterday Wed March 13. DFW/MIA 77W. EXP about 480K LP Rolling 12 months. About 80 on the upgrade list, I was number 7. Six cleared at the gate, no luck for me. Upgrades were selling for $291 but I had a PE seat and for a 3 hour flight PE is good enough, sans the $5 Wawa meal.

3/6 RDU-ORD cleared at T-72 (two pax I'm EXP with 280K LP rolling)
3/14 ORD-RDU cleared at T-48 (same as above) |
New situation for me, since I took my family on our second paid Business class trip of the qualification year right after Christmas my wife and two kids all have Gold status, so family of four, 1 EXP and 3 Golds, we are booked for Spring Break on award tickets using my kids' miles all on a single itinerary, this Saturday we're flying MCI-DFW-RSW, we cleared DFW-RSW at about T-100 of our MCI-DFW flight. I thought I had read we wouldn't even be on the upgrade list since if a PNR had more than two people no one would clear, but apparently that is not always true.
