Here, as your wife and kids are gold, they are eligible for upgrades by virtue of their status. Only one can inherit your EXP status for priority though.

So here's a question: I am EP. husband is PP. We are flying with 2 kids - neither have status. On the reservation it doesn't say upgrade requested - I assume we would have to split the PNR? Is there any other way to do it?

yes, complimentary upgrade for one other passenger so i'd split it into two with you and one kid and your husband and one kid

Yep that's the only way to do it.

Quick rundown from the past week:

Monday evening BOS-DFW — GLDs cleared as the list was empty and we had one open seat on a 320.

DFW-BOS Thursday evening — ~20 on the list, and only a few seats open a week out (321).

BOS-MIA Sunday evening68 on the list and one cleared (a couple split up). First was sold out a week out. Haven’t seen a 50+ list in a while (321).

AUS to CLT 0600 Flight: I thought I would have a chance due to 1/2 MT plane 24 hours out, but upon check-in the 8 FC seats there were available previous day were down to 4. I had offer for $91 to upgrade. I mean, who wouldn't take it? $30/hr. Maybe next flight..

Me. Standard domestic F is not worth paying for.

This week:

ICN-DFW, 772, Sunday (AA280): SWU cleared off waitlist ~60 hours before the flight
DFW-DEN, A321, Sunday, ~7pm: SWU cleared at same time as above flight (even though I hadn't actually requested this leg)

EXP, around 320k rolling 12 month LP.

For recent weeks, US to HND flights have been completely full, especially J, I've been changing my flight based on J and W availability. At last, I booked DFW-NRT although it'd add two additional hours for transportation after landing, but there were 4J, 7+W 4 days out, then apply SWU, It went down to 3J 4W 2days out. In this morning, it was cleared DFW-NRT segment out of blue. Yes!

After that, I FUCA'HUCAed a few times to find an agent who can expand the scope of the cleared SWU to another segments (my flight is two layovers including one overnight), both segments were cleared a couple of hours later.
Today is my lucky day.

The summer NE delay season is arriving......................

DCA-JFK - no upgrade at T-100 despite 6 seats being open. F was booked full at T-24. Was #1 out of 7 on the list and cleared battlefield style. We then proceeded to sit in the Runway 33 hold box for an hour.

JFK-DCA - cleared right at T-100 hours. There were only 3 of us booked in F which is surprising given that the flight is usually a connector for inbound TA flights. Finished with meeting 2 hours earlier and opted to get onto the early 5:30 flight. #1 on the standby list and there were 7 on the UG list for 7 seats. All seven of them cleared. I cleared standby and took 8A (all of Row 8 was empty). GA came on and moved me to 1A. Oh, this flight was two hours late owing to low ceilings and wind at JFK.

2/2 on battlefield upgrades this week.

That it is. If this was Wednesday, my inbound to JFK from Boston was delayed nearly two hours after we pushed back due to the weather. The $55 fare difference for a confirmed E175 A row seat was worth it. There were about 15 on the list.
