the 2 people rule is for inherited status. I.e 1 EXP and 3 no status people.

Here, as your wife and kids are gold, they are eligible for upgrades by virtue of their status. Only one can inherit your EXP status for priority though.

All three inherited my status, it was T-100 and we're all in first now.

I'm EXP with SWUs. I'm traveling with someone on the first flight (the intl leg) and then we are on separate flights on the second leg. One way ticket. Two separate PNRs as a result.

If I WL a SWU for myself and companion (who is on the separate PNR), will my companion get the same upgrade priority? Companion has no status.

I continue to bat 1.000 on upgrades so far this calendar year as a barely ExPlat. I got lucky today, as I was quite surprised to receive an upgrade.

I am currently in F on my FAT-DFW flight (3/19/25) on an A320. For about 10 days leading up to the flight, F was sold out and not available for purchase.

Once the waitlist opened, and up until about 90 minutes before the flight, the app showed 0 seats available in F. F was not available for sale, either. About an hour before the flight, the app showed 2 seats available. I was number 2 out of 10 on the list, so things looked good. I cleared with #1 about ten minutes before boarding began. After boarding, two additional customers were given battlefield upgrades. The app showed four total people upgraded with four seats available. It appeared that four total F customers, 1/3 of the F cabin, either changed their plans or didn't show up for the flight at the last minute. This was quite the fortunate turn for the four of us that got upgraded today.

I am enjoying my upgrade, although I passed on the meal. I was disappointed with the carb-bomb cold breakfast they offered this morning. My next two itineraries are in Paid F (DFW-MSY, $120 more than main cabin at the time of booking and MSY-CLT-DFW-SMF for 21K miles), so I will continue to bat 1.000, knock on wood, until the middle of April.

Executive Platinum with approximately 195k rolling LPs. Went 2 for 3 on upgrades for my March trip - not bad at all. 4 flights scheduled for April, will have to see how I do then when my LPs will drop significantly.

Past week’s travels —

• Friday early am ORD-BOS cleared at the window: SDFC’d to an evening flight that had a 15 deep list (both 175s).
• Tuesday early am BOS-DCA (319). Cleared at the window and ~30 on the list.
• Wednesday early am DCA-BOS (319). Cleared at the window and SDFC’d to the not-as-early am flight (175). 15 on the list with two open seats. One cleared and one was given to a FA.
• Thursday early am BOS-LGA (175). Cleared at booking two days out and went out with a few open seats.
• Thursday night LGA-BOS (175). J2 at booking so I ponied up the $68. Two cleared off the list of 20ish.

At about 1.05M rolling LPs.

The pervasiveness of 175s on the BOS-ORD route is crushing for productivity as the WiFi is awful. At least the improved WiFi is being rolled out as two of my recent flights have had it.

My luck may come to an end tomorrow on Delta — currently #6 for 5 seats :eek:

3/27/25 AA971 LAX-DFW: Right before boarding, we went from 1 and 2 for 2 seats to 3 and 4 for 3. Ended up no splitting, so 5 got the upgrade. 26 on the list.

3/27/25 AA1966 DFW-GUC: 6 and 7 out of 22 for 0 seats.

3/30/25 AA1906 GUC-DFW: 7 and 8 out of 24 for 0 seats.

3/30/25 AA2597 DFW-BUR: 10 and 11 out of 24 for 0 seats

3/31 - ROC-CLT - cleared T- 24
3/31 - CLT-ROC - cleared T-100, but flight cancelled late this morning.
Re-accommodated on later flight. Upgrade cleared at around T-8
Got to CLT and saw an earlier flight was delayed and still here. Hustled and got re-accommodated at gate, last person to board, and lucky enough to get exit row. Gate agent grabbed the FO sitting next to me for a battlefield upgrade. Damn these pilot contracts 😢

4/01/25 IAH-CLT: Upgraded - Booked yesterday. Flight was J6. Cleared at T24.5

4/01/25 CLT-LGA: Pending- Booked yesterday. Flight was J3.

4/03/25 LGA-DFW: Pending- Booked yesterday. Flight is J2.

4/03/25 DFW-IAH: Upgraded - Booked yesterday. Cleared at T100

maybe the wrong thread but for the first time ever, I am sponsoring an upgrade for a companion whose itinerary overlaps with mine on one segment. I'm already in F, so this is just about his upgrade. For that segment upgrade: is he eligible for an upgrade in advance (like I would be based on my EXP status), or does the linkage for a companion upgrade on a separate itinerary only work for the day of departure (battlefield) upgrades at the airport?

We're now in the EXP upgrade window, and looking at the flights, in my experience I likely would have been upgraded by now, but he hasn't been. Do I need to call in and double check that the upgrade request was submitted properly?

They will inherit the window as well.

AA has been holding back upgrades on wide open flights (route/day dependent), so the usual "should have been upgraded" logic isn't always viable anymore.

It wouldn't hurt to call and check that theyre properly added.

The companion upgrades can happen at any time, not just at the airport. It may simply be that no upgrade space has been released yet or that other EXPs trump him in the queue. Still, it wouldn't hurt to call to make sure everything is set up properly. Also, you can check his reservation in the app and see if there is an Upgrades link. If so, the requested upgrade should show there.

Thank you both very much. Very aware of the recent AA turn to extremely limited upgrades, though that was what I was mostlhy basing my assessment on, and even on that standard, I'd have likely expected to be upgraded by now (want to be clear that I fly AA frequently and have what I would consider to be a fairly good instinct as to which routes are likely to see advance upgrades). I'll call and double check on the upgrade registration at this point. Really appreciate all of the responses.
