Same here! Case in point- EXP flying LAX-DFW tomorrow. No upgrade as of yet. App now, T-24, still sells upgrades for $146. Cabin had half the cabin unassigned this morning, now only 3 seats remain. Hard not to upgrade for such a cheap price point.

EXP with about 300k rolling LP.
Last 2 weeks: CLT-FRA - 2 at the gate; FRA-CLT - 2 SWUs at about 1 month. This week: CLT-MCI at T-100; MCI-CLT at T-26. |
Another flight, two segments J7 and $97 upgrade offers, T-100, still no upgrade. Almost like AA is either taking the piss and scraping the bottom of the barrel for TOD, or the UG processor is broken.

Certain routes AA doesn't seem to process upgrades until around T-24 even if the F cabin is wide open. Presumably because AA is waiting for upgrade offers to be taken. Flying MIA/DCA on Saturday 8 open seats still no upgrade. AA is selling upgrades for just $104 but with seat 11A on a 321ceo it's not worth the crummy $3 meal served.

I'm #3 out of 28 for 1 seat tpa-phl today.
My overall upgrade % has improved to 35% since leaving DFW but still not stellar. |

Been seeing a major delay in upgrades at the T100 window, cabin will be wide open J7, and upgrades being sold as low as 100$ for a 1300+ mile flight. Yet, will still be waitlisted until departure day where 4 people clear.
It's on a CRJ700 with 9 F seats, 6 of which are open. This is about as elite-light as a flight as you can get. A gold would clear this 99/100 tries, and I know of a few non-elites who have been rolled up from coach, which has been filling up a lot the last few months. I have yet seen more than 6/9 F seats taken when I've flown it. Upgrade offer is $54. Not bad, even with the short flight time since the back gets ~zero service while the front usually gets PDB, in flight drinks, and snack basket offerings. But 100%, I will clear it. I also haven't cleared the next segment which is a DFW-east coast. It's an A321 with 13 F seats open right now. Upgrade offer was $105 a few days ago, but is now $194. This route I have flown about 10 times in the last 5 years and have never cleared it, but I like my chances this time. Now, I accept that AA likely wants to hold back on upgrades a bit for an elite heavy business route for some last minute F purchases, but the short CRJ route? Come on.... |

For whatever reasons(s), (bad algo) AA will often hold back upgrades on Eagle even with many open seats. At times the upgrades aren't processed until the gate-often 5 or more at the time.

AA’s FCM is definitely getting aggressive. For the last several days I’ve seen tomorrows flight I’m on (Phl-clt) dwindle from 4 open seats to now zeroed out in F. You know it’s getting tough when a 300k LP exp can’t get a Saturday upgrade :D

I ended up clearing PHL-DFW at the gate along with 3 other people, and DFW-DEN at T-12, where there were ~5 additional seats that were upgraded at the gate. I get elite heavy routes, and other factors, but holding seats so far close to departure and having such low upgrade offers is annoying, especially when you end up clearing with 5 other people at once and have no seat selection, as I was put into the bulkhead or window seat. |
I made EXP this year and I thought I’d just share my Upgrade experience as a lot of people ask about HNL flights. I’ve only flown to/from my base toLAX this year but will fly to DFW en route to BOS in Sept and tell u how that goes.
To sum up, as an EXP I’ve been upgraded on the HNL portion 1/4. I pretty much get upgraded every time for the LAS portion (3/3). 2/9 HNL-LAX PP no upgrade; LAX-LAS Upgraded 4/5 HNL-LAX EXP no upgrade; LAX-LAS Upgraded 4/10 LAX-HNL EXP no upgrade 4/24 LAS-LAX-HNL EXP upgraded both legs 5/19 HNL-LAX-MEX EXP no upgrade first leg and bought F LAX-MEX 5/22 MEX-DFW-LAX-HNL EXP bought F 5/31 HNL-LAX-LAS No upgrade (flew standby on earlier flight) 6/21 HNL-LAX-LAS 10 seats open in FC. C0 on upgrades, C7 on availability. $273 in app upgrade offer. Gonna wait and see what happens. |
So simple even a Gold can do it
Two Golds traveling, one with 0 LPs, the other with 4,500. FC had 4 seats for sale at T-15 and we were upgraded when I checked at T-9. App shows 1 seat left open with a likely couple on the list. Ticket cost went down over the 4 months we had it and the upgrade offer stayed consistent at $146 for this outbound leg. This is a mid-afternoon, Saturday DFW-RIC flight.
My husband and I are very surprised and will enjoy the extra comfort (and lunch!). We probably won't even be able to find open MCE seats on the way back. Probably unrelated but interesting... Booked this when I was still PlatPro. Lost MCE seats when I called to get flight credit when the price dropped. Couldn't get free MCE until T-24 (as usual). Mobile Boarding passes showed Group 2 when we checked in at T-19. Nice AA IT glitch. |
Well 415 was running late today so I would have misconnected at clt for Tpa. The agent at the AC put me on the non stop 2082 where I was 1 out of 2 free seats so here I sit in F. I’m getting home later than expected but at least I’m up front and that’s always a welcomed surprise these days.
Oh I took the AA bus yesterday and today to ACY. It’s a nice ride but contrary to the announcement over the PA there was no Wi-Fi nor IFE just a circa 2005 crt hanging from the ceiling with windows 95 looking program. Also for some reason I thought the bus would be going to the AC bus terminal right near everything but no it goes to ACY so plan another $100 RT for Uber. Next time I’ll just rent a car at Philly. (Is there a train?). |
As I settle into my F class seat here on my Alaska flight SEA-SAN, I am now 7 out of 8 for upgrades as a PlatPro on AS. My only miss was LAS-SFO on a Friday, and I was the second on the list to not get upgraded.
AS treats AA elites better than AA treats AS elites. |
