Yes, automatic reinstatement of miles and refund of taxes with no penalty even on Web Specials. No reason not to make the bookings.

What do you think may happen with BA Avios redemptions for US domestic flights, will these change, and how quickly? A this point are on par with AA miles domestic redemptions, I am wondering...

already effectively changed IMO, that’s why they introduced web specials

Ah, I wish. I'm not even close to the people I know who are buying fully-flexible First between the UK and the US and the Middle East every week. Lots of ponds out there, I suppose, and $7k on a single ticket is peanuts for many. I am very much a very small fish compared to many of the frequent flyers here on FT or on the Facebook groups, who post screenshots of annual spend many times higher than mine. And all of them pay attention to miles earned.

I should ask the ones who fly UA how they feel about the limit mentioned above.

BA already raised their redemption levels for North America (the sub-3000 mile flights), either last year or early this year. AA would just be catching up. Also, I think J and F awards are the ones which are going to take a hit. But there may be some really good Y redemptions. Even DL (which has rediculous J award pricing) offers a lot of domestic award flights between 2.5K and 10K miles each way. In fact, a booked a US-Europe RT award with DL a couple of years ago for something like 36K or 38K miles... in the late spring/early summer. Yeah, I know... intl coach travel. The horror!!!

I'm not sure how directly relevant it is, but I booked two one-way awards between PHL and ATL for 6500 miles on DL a couple of months ago. Although my personal travel is almost all paid travel on AA, I have sizeable piles of miles on DL and UA also that I often use for friends.

For domestic redemptions on AA requiring connections, moving BAEC Avios to Iberia Plus will often result in better value. BAEC charges for each flight flown; Iberia Plus charges based upon the roundtrip mileage, regardless of connections. But Iberia Plus does not permit changes or cancellations on AA award travel. That's the tradeoff.

Last week I booked a whole bunch of US transcons for 6-7.5k each. Same flights are
now asking 12k+.

Has the change already rolled out?

Thanks FT for the heads’ up!

Or it's just that everyone has been drying up all the inventory through the end of schedule for the impending doom. The Sword of Damocles will be upon us in a matter of days.

DL has seasonal (10/24-11/17, 11/21-12/14, and 12/25-4/7) roundtrip coach awards to LHR/MAD/BCN for 32K right now from many markets. It's primarily the business class awards to Europe that have increased (low-level went from 160K roundtrip to 210K roundtrip -- although there are some seasonal 160K roundtrip D1 awards on JFK-LHR route).

Still remarkably quiet on this topic, no leaks whatsoever, which makes me wonder if they might have pulled the upcoming change.

So... hypothetical.... say that Tonight I put a couple of partner award flights on Hold. Monday morning a massive devaluation is announced and my city pairs are now an additional 100K, effective immediately.

Will AA honor purchase of tickets with miles as held? I'm guessing they will, but curious what others think.

If you're inclined to book award tickets based on a 193-posts-and-counting megathread of totally uninformed speculation and rumormongering, why not go whole hog and actually ticket them tonight too?

Exactly, since they're so easy to cancel and reinstate, might as well.

I managed to book a transcon F/J on AA's A321T at websaver levels, and a JL F all the way out in September. Fingers crossed!

Hypothetically speaking, whatever the award price is when you put the ticket on hold is what you'll likely be charged provided you ticket it prior to the hold expiring. That being said, AA is under no contractual obligation to honor the held award rate.
