Hi all,

I've booked LAX-JFK-MAN (Manchester UK) for August. I have a 50 min connection in JFK, arriving at 630pm with the next flight at 720pm. It's on one ticket on AA.

Do the experts think this is a safe connection? To be honest a misconnect would suit me if I could be put on a later flight to London instead, so I'm not too stressed about it.

Would bags likely make this connection?

Many thanks

Like a lot of connections, 50 mins is plenty if you're on time, but doesn't leave a lot of room for any hiccups. Your bags should make it.

In these types of scenarios it always pays to be extra vigilant at your departure airport. If it looks like your LAX-JFK is going to be delayed, then start working with the AAgents at LAX to get rebooked on LAX-LHR-MAN, for example.

According to insidelfyer.com,

DD 35 minutes
DI 40 minutes
ID 75 minutes
II 75 minutes

Seems right because I remember an AA agent telling me about a legal connection I could do at JFK, and I said no way.... way too short!

Anyone tried an international-international connection through JFK T8? I'm thinking of connecting from LAN to AA (SCL-JFK-LHR), and wondering whether baggage is likely to be checked through... because otherwise the 75 minutes MCT seems to be too risky?

Thanks.

It's most likely longer MCT. The times listed I believe are only AA-AA. You need to find the MCT for LATAM to AA I-I.

Nope, LA-AA I-I MCT is 75 minutes.

It lists LA-AA II 2.00 ALL but overrides it on basically every AA flight to 1.15. Curious if it's a mistaken load or if they really believe 75 minutes is plenty of time to clear into the US, clear security into airport and be on board in time.

With the exception of those (few) international flights with pre-clearance, all bags from international flights coming into the USA must be picked up and rechecked for both domestic and international connections.

There's some airports that have ITI. However I don't belive AA @ JFK does, plus since OP inbound isn't on same airline as outbound it wouldn't qualify.

Even with ITI you still need to grab your bag and recheck. There are plenty of ITI at JFK.

ITI is the name of the process at some US airports wherein you don't pickup bags when connecting international to International. No bag recheck, no baggage pickup. For example DL at ATL has ITI. UA at I believe IAH. etc...

You learn something new every day. I was unaware of such a program. (And in almost 3 million miles of traveling never heard anyone say anything other than all bags must be picked/rechecked.)

Thanks for the education. ^

I have a trip booked (on two separate PNR) that originates NAS-MIA-JFK on AA then on a separate ticket JFK to LHR on AA so same terminal but as I have hold luggage I will need to claim and recheck thanks to AA no longer interlining baggage on separate PNR.
Currently land at 18:30 from MIA and due to take off at 20:00. Is this achievable?
Or do I need to think about letting one of my colleagues on flight NAS-PHL-LHR (one PNR) take my hold bag and I go hand luggage only?

Probably belongs in a different thread, but I will answer anyway.

This is an illegal connection. (Ref: Inside Flyer.) In MIA, I to D is 1 hour 35 minutes. You are 5 minutes short.

Doable? With TT and pre-check and no checked bags, probably. With checked bags, maybe. Any delays and you are SOL. And with an illegal connection, you may not get much sympathy from AA.
