What happened to the little antipasti plates or hummus plates or cheese and crackers? I thought they had replaced the nuts+cookie that was the AA standard pre-merger.

I know the "lite bites" with the tiny sandwiches lasted a few months after the 9/1/14 catering changes but I haven't seen them in a long time.

From the page: Full meals are served on departures between 5 a.m. -1:30 p.m. and 4:01 p.m. – 8 p.m. Warmed mixed nuts and Lite Bites are served on departures between 1:31 p.m. – 4 p.m. and after 8:01 p.m.
It is odd that a 1hr flight (eg DFW/AUS at 10.15pm) will have a snack basket with a lot of variety to choose from (potato chips, cookies, etc.) but a 3hr evening flight only has warm nuts and then a cookie. I think you can ask for the food they sell in coach but it won't be served on a plate, etc.

Unfortunately, those snacks are only offered during meal times on slightly shorter flights (although it would be a great improvement if AA rolled these out on meal flights post 8 p.m.):

700-899 miles
(2 2:30 hours)

Warmed mixed nuts and a selection of plated snack such as fruit and cheese, hummus and pita or spinach dip and pita; or a warm cookie is served on most flights.

OK. The plated snack things were served on an ANC-DFW redeye in September.

I was caught in this bad food decision myself when my DFW-PHX was enough delayed I wouldn't have made the last PHX-OAK flight, ended up getting rerouted DFW-SJC with a 2 hour wait.

Then no food on board (I don't consider nuts and a cookie food). Arrived at 1am in SJC, had to rent a car up to OAK, then take Uber from there, it was cheaper than taxi, etc.

I think I got a $100 voucher in the end from AA.

You should be lucky to get anything at all, especially something other than just transportation from Point A to Point B. -<redacted>

Those snacks are absolutely still served on longer flights outside of the meal windows, just not on the flights ~10pm. My recent flights at 8:15 and 8:50 both include the hummus/cheese choices. Perhaps ~9pm is the unpublished cutoff from Snack to Refreshment.

I want to say that was for flights after 9pm.

I experienced Lite Bites for the first time last night on an 8:10pm flight to Boston and was happy to have something. I've been flying late DFW-ORD and DCA-DFW flights that just get the nuts and cookies after 8pm.
You mentioned DFW - ORD, at least during meal time they serve meals on that route. For a little longer flight from DFW - MKE, you get NOTHING! AA is inconsistent and when you do get food it is awful anyway.

Beware of the "warm" nuts. I was sitting in row 1 and witnessed the FA scooping them into the ramekins with her bare hands and then sweeping the crumbs from the top of the cart into the ramekins located on the first tray of the cart she pulled out. When she asked if I wanted nuts, I said you are nuts if you think I want them after you're dirty hands have been all over them and you swept them from the top of the dirty cart.

DFW-ORD is published as an exception market where meals are served although they would not qualify based on distance alone.

Thanks for the clarification, that's good to know! Out of curiosity, how long were those flights?

There should be no cut-off whatsoever. Any flight on DFW-LAX needs to have a meal regardless of when it departs. The fact that most people might not want a meal at 10pm or on a redeye does not matter. This is especially the case when AA charges most elites for upgrades - a practice I support, but it needs to result in a superior product, which AA no longer provides.

As I said earlier AA is all over the place. 12:15am LAX-PHL gets the hummus cheese but the 12:59am LAX-CLT gets just the nuts and cookies.
