I was caught in this bad food decision myself when my DFW-PHX was enough delayed I wouldn't have made the last PHX-OAK flight, ended up getting rerouted DFW-SJC with a 2 hour wait.

Then no food on board (I don't consider nuts and a cookie food). Arrived at 1am in SJC, had to rent a car up to OAK, then take Uber from there, it was cheaper than taxi, etc.

I think I got a $100 voucher in the end from AA.
