Don't you have to give the certificate number at re-ticketing (over the phone)? It's not like you can use them again.

No. U give the type of certificate along with the expiration date (I think).

I'm pretty sure they asked for my certificate number, but okay.

They have never asked for my certificate number. I've cashed out 6 of these on TATL upgrades.

And it's 50/50 on if they ask for the cert at the gate. The last 2 times, the GA's did not.

Of course, it's always best to have a valid certificate, in case they DO check it.

Meeting services (the BE dept that does upgrades & rez) always asks just for the expiration date.

Wow, that's interesting. If that's the case, that's one heck of a deal by cutting the relative price in half.

Well, the best practice would be to use VALID certs, ha!

The Meetings Services desk only usually asks me to confirm that the cert is valid through date of travel.

But the last 3 upgrades I cleared at booking using BXP3's I did not even have in my hand when I called Meetings Services. I actually saw the C space, called Meeting Services, booked the 3 upgrades to J, then ordered the BXP3s. ^

Not sure if this goes here, but...

From what I can tell, AA is pretty liberal with BusinessExtra membership? Two friends and I have a little side business (and yes, we do have revenue) but we have no intention of making it more than a side thing and haven't bothered to register as an LLC. If I just use my name in the Business Name field (and make them my "employees"), does that work?

I normally give my BXP1 certs away as thank yous, but recently started redeeming them for my own travel as well. On my last two flights I experienced something unusual with my mileage earning.

In mid-April I redeemed a BXP1 for LAS-JFK. The flight posted to my account as a regular F-class ticket with 1.5x bonus points, 2x EQM, and 1000 bonus miles for F/J travel. I wasn't sure the reason, whether a mistake made by the Meeting Services agent who processed the upgrade or a quirk in the system.

Earlier this week I flew PHL-SFO, redeeming another BXP1. This time the flight posted normally as a Y-class ticket. No extra EQM or bonus miles for F/J.

What has been the experience of others with how upgraded flights post to your account?

As regular coach flights.

Or business class ones when I've used a BXP1 to upgrade paid C to F on 3-class transcon.

I know this might come off as a stupid question, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer either on the BE site or in this forum.

The awards do not state if they are good for one-way or round-trip travel.
Example, if I want to US to EU in Y on a planAhead ticket, would I need 4400 pts or 8800 pts for a round trip.

The only line within the terms is "PlanAhead Awards are valid for one-way or round-trip travel, are subject to special limitations on seat availability and may be subject to travel embargo dates." Since it mentions both, I'm not completely sure.

Thanks!

It's for round trip, but if you only use it for one way it will cost the same.

I just received two one segment upgrade certificates (BXP1).
I booked business class ticket (I) LAX-JFK-CDG-JFK-LAX.
I want to upgrade the transcon flights LAX-JFK-LAX by the BXP1 certs.

I'm looking at "How to redeem" in front of the cert, and it says
1. Make reservation for and purchase a published Economy Class fare ticket (except fares booked in B, N, O, Q, or S inventory) from your authorized Travel Agent or American Airlines.
Bold is mine.

So does that mean I can't use the BXP1 cert to upgrade my Business class seats to First class seats even A inventory is available

I believe that's correct.
