I redeemed one of those plan ahead awards when my points was about to expire. Had difficulty ever finding a flight for a city I want to fly to. End up losing the award.
This year around, I just use them for my Admirals Club. Not a max value but much easier than searching for hours and calling them trying to find a flight. |

Using BE points for upgrades is generally MUCH more valuable than travel awards, and the removal of the 30-day upgrade window hugely increases their value.

I had the same issue before with the award expiring, but they allowed me to get the points back for $150. Did you call them to ask? The award availability should be similar to Aadvantage "saver" availability, but flights I could book online for saver were not available for BX awards when I called.
Return Awards Note: Reinstatement without a fee only applies to electronic flight awards redeemed within the last five calendar days (Days end at 11:59 p.m. Central Time - USA). * Point balances will be adjusted to reinstate the number of points claimed at the time of redemption. * Expiring point balances will be updated to reflect pre-redemption status. * Awards returned will be identified in the Search for Awards Detail with the status code of Returned. * Once an award has been returned it is null and void. It may not be used for future travel. |

I don't think that will help the OP since the points were expiring, assuming I am reading the Return Awards page right (under the Earn & Redeem Points menu):
So I decided it was not worth it. Lose a little value by using it for AC. Gain in earning more miles plus possibility of upgrade by buying ticket. I also try for International awards, but it was hopeless for destinations like London or China. |

If it is - does this workaround work? Put T class booking on hold using AAdvantage award search but do not ticket. Then call Meeting Services and have them look up the PNR and apply BX cert instead of AAdv miles to the already created PNR? |
I've taken this opportunity to update, add to, and reformat some of the general info provided in the first post. Please let me know by PM if any additional info needs to be added or revised. :)

BXP1 from BusinessExtrAA
Has anyone had any luck as an AA Gold upgrading domestic segments using a BXP1 award from BusinessExtrAA? Anyone know where this instrument falls in the upgrade hierarchy?

Do they waitlist? It should be an immediate upgrade if A fare space is available and you are trying to upgrade a qualifying fare.

Does anyone here have random peoples flights post to their BE accounts?

BXP5 Special Services Award - AAdvantage GoldŽ Status
Has anyone here redeemed this award? How is the award given and how long does it take? Does it take longer if the recipient doesn't have an AAdvantage account? |

Thanks, thats helpful. AA is giving them an ARV (approximate retail value) somewhere around 10k (I'd have to look it up) but I only have to pay tax on the FMV...
Remember, if you only want a one way ticket, you still have to use a full BE roundtrip award to get it. So, maybe you can value a 2000 mile domestic ticket award at $50 to $100 Document it Use that as the FMV |

You just put in the recipient's AA number. If I recall correctly, their status will show in the system in about week, followed by membership card in the mail a few weeks later.
