May 9 - July 31, concurrently to the AAdvantage NAS16 bonus miles offer for round trip travel to Europe, Business Extra is offering its own bonus: BXTA16. Up to 1,600 BEX points (fare class dependent) for each round trip to Europe within that time frame.

I want to upgrade the transcon flights LAX-JFK-LAX by the BXP1 certs.

I'm looking at "How to redeem" in front of the cert, and it says
1. Make reservation for and purchase a published Economy Class fare ticket (except fares booked in B, N, O, Q, or S inventory) from your authorized Travel Agent or American Airlines.
Bold is mine.

So does that mean I can't use the BXP1 cert to upgrade my Business class seats to First class seats even A inventory is available

You can use BXP1 to upgrade paid J, I or D to A. I have done it. Unless rules changed since March

Do you remember if your cert said "published Economy Class fare ticket" or not?

I will look. But I go by what the Business extra website advertises. You have to call business extra at their number on the site, to book it, so you might as well ask them too. Did they refuse the upgrade?

The staff on the phone are usually fine about doing it Business to First, assuming there is space in my experience.

The Business Extra web site has no restriction against business-to-first upgrades on three-class transcons. Go to https://businessextra.com/viewAwards.htm# , click Upgrades, then Within North America, click Question Mark or click BXP1. The text there does not have the "published Economy Class fare ticket" wording quoted above. Fine argument that customer should be bound by AA's statements before a customer requests an award. If customer works to earn points for a promised award (with certain terms), and clicks on that award (again having been offered those terms), that's the time for AA to specify the terms and restrictions. Quite untimely for AA to add (or purport to add) additional terms only days later when the customer receives the (purportedly non-refundable non-returnable) paper upgrade voucher.

This BXP1 certificate does have the language about purchasing an Economy ticket. But I think that is just poor drafting, as this is the same batch that I have successfully used to upgrade from paid Business (I) to First domestically, when there was A availability.

Nice!

Also quite interesting is the additional 200 Business Extra points per segment for flying BA's new nonstop service from SJC to LHR.

Eligible itineraries for travel between Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR) will receive a bonus equivalent to 200 points for each transatlantic segment between Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR). Bonus offer valid only on nonstop transatlantic segments between North America and Europe, and does not extend to connecting segments. Eligible itineraries must include roundtrip travel originating from and terminating within North America during the promotional period.

This is on top of the 400 for a main cabin round trip with this promotion. So conceivably 800 bonus Business Extra points for one economy round trip from SJC-LHR.

I have an existing BA (all BA marketed & operated flights on BA 125 stock) reservation that I would like to add my Business Extra account to. It is in J and would qualify for the 1,600 bonus points. However, when I call BA they have no idea how to add it. I gave the agent the number and she said it needs to be 7 alphanumeric digits. Mine is 6 numeric digits. Then I called AA Business Extra and they said they are unable to add it - that it must be done at booking or can be requested for retroactive credit after flying. However, the promotion says retroactive credit does not qualify for the bonus. So it seems there is no way for me to get the bonus if all this is true. Did I get an incompetent agent at BA and/or AA? Or is there truly no way to add the Business Extra number to an all-BA reservation until after the fact?

Can TYP flights be added to Business Extra?

I just called BE, and I was able to use the BXP1 certs to upgrade my seats I->A with no issue. ^
The agent didn't mention published Economy Class fare ticket at all. Of course I didn't either.

Enjoy! Flagship First is a fantastic experience on that route and depending on your travel dates you might even earn another BXP1 on that trip.

Employee credits to AS; Does company still earn BE?

If my employee elects to credit their BA-marketed and operated premium cabin flights to their Alaska Mileage Plan account, will my company still earn Business Extra points (including those from promotions)?

How to add Business Extra to BA flight

I had same issue, and took me a while to find the solution. Documenting the frustration, but answers are at the end.

1. First call to AA Business Extra: agent said I can do it on BA.com by pulling up my record
2. Went on BA.com, couldn't find anything
3. Call BA twice, they had no clue about the business account, and couldn't add. I mentioned the "On Business" program which is BA's own program now merged with AA's program, they gave me the On Business US number, which no one answered after waiting half hour
4. Call AA Business Extra again, expressed my frustration, and she forwarded the instruction that they got from BA to do it online
5. Follow the instruction. Chrome was giving me some trouble saying the flights have taken place (???). Tried Firefox and success!!!

Here are the instruction:

To add your Business extra number to a British Airways reservation you will want to do the following.
1) Go to www.britishairways.com
2) Select 'Manage My Booking' tab
3) Follow the instructions to pull up your reservation
4) Select the link towards bottom listed under 'Quick Links' 'Add On Business or Business Extra number'
5) Add your Business Extra number and check the box to give your consent.

It's under the very busy "Quick Links" at the bottom so very easy to miss! Good luck!
