Note there seem to be yet unannounced inflationary changes to Business Extra. Gary Leff (The Boarding Area) is reporting. Among them:

There are three types of Business ExtrAA (sic) upgrades: one segment domestic upgrades, one-way international upgrades (full fare), and one-way international upgrades (domestic fares). American tells me they’ve made these changes:

One segment domestic upgrade: added ‘B’ fares to the list of exclusions, so these certificates are now valid on all fares except for B, N, O, Q and S, likely L, W, V also.

One-way international upgrade (full fares): removed B from the allowable fares, so the upgrades only now are valid for J and Y (true full fare) fares.

One-way international upgrade (discount fares): added B, N, and Q fares to the list of exclusions, so these certificates are not valid on all fares except for B, N, O, Q, and S. [I believe Q, W, and V fares were also already excluded.]

They’ve also added the language that American “reserves the right to change the inventory restrictions at any time, without notice” to these certificates and also that they are not valid on “fares that do not allow upgrades.”

Nice how they're letting us claim those BXPs this year, but not telling us about these restrictions until after we have done so. As Gary says, "At American, the program isn’t run by AAdvantage but by Sales.":mad::mad:

Very odd. B is a high fare. Why exclude it from upgrades? Certainly it should be valid for discount fares, but given its position in the fare ladder, it was a very logical fare to include as a full fare for upgrade at a lower number of BE points.

Maybe they are carving that out for premium economy?

Exactly. They are becoming more arbitrarily restrictive.

And of course if any of us have purchased a B fare and thought we could upgrade with a BXP- we now can not - no notice, nada. :td:

If anyone here is in this situation, it would be my pleasure to assist. This would be an excellent subject for a formal DOT complaint requiring an on-the-record public response by AA counsel.

The changes to the BXP3 international discount upgrade are significant - the previous exclusions were (L, O, S, W, V, Q). The new exclusions add B, N, with the latter being a common discount economy fare, I think. What is not clear is if the list posted by Gary Leff (B, N, O, Q, S) indicates that L, W, and V are now eligible (which would be a positive). So, would be great if someone could please post once they get one of these new BXP3 certs.

Not sure the timing but I have a few that were delivered a couple of weeks ago:
- BXP1s expiring 6/30/2017: exclusions include N, O, Q or S
- BXP3s expiring 12/31/2016: exclusions include L, O, S, W, V or Q

Looks like these are the old ones, even the ones expiring mid-2017.
The B restriction is strange. Seems very counter.

I ordered a BXP1 just after Xmas. Waiting to receive it and will report back when I do.

My BXP1 excludes B/N/O/Q/S and has an expiry of 30 June 2017.

Using BXP1 on AA domestic, credit for BA tier points?

If I use a BXP1 to upgrade a 2-class flight to F, I see that it books into A.

If the flight is being credited to a BA FF, does anyone have experience with how BA tier points are awarded? Is it A, or the original booking class?

On 3 Class JFK-LAX/SFO, is the inventory to search to upgrade a paid Business Class ticket to First using a BXP1 still A inventory?

Thanks!

I have an award (with auth number) I redeemed before my points expired (12/31/2015_. If I use it to book flights now (for June) but then decide to cancel, will my award be reinstated (for the $150) with the original expire date (12/28/2016) or does this work only for points (ie the points would be reinstated with their originally expire date 12/31/2015, but since that day has passed, they won't)?

Or is it possible to change the date of the outbound/inbound flight(s) (same route) on a res made with the award?

Thank you
