NOTE: The last C45 777-223ER was retrofitted to C37 and Premium Economy at KPAE and returned to service 11 December 2018. Please see the new “Which 777-200ER?” thread here.
- Two J seats, two configurations as of 1/1/2019: Two, 37J Zodiac in 20 772 and Super Diamond in 27.
The final two Boeing 777-200 left to be retrofit (aircraft registrations N759AN and N795AN) entered the shop at the end of November. With these out of service, all 777-200s operating going forward will have the following configuration:
37 Business (1-2-1 arrangement)
24 Premium Economy (2-4-2)
66 Main Cabin Extra (3-4-3)
146 Economy (3-4-3)
link to American Airlines Retrofits Its 100th Widebody Aircraft With Premium Economy, TPG, 5 Dec 2018
- Premium Economy installation began June 2017, over December 2018 for the 45J - now converted to 37J.
- Route Deployment, "How can I tell?" and General Discussion
NOTE: On aa.com, seat charts make it difficult to identify which 777 has Zodiac or B/E Aerospace seats. See post #1 for the AA seat diagrams of the 777 Business cabins.
If the available (blue) seats have a notch in the front signifying aft (backward) facing seats, it’s a Zodiac “Concept D” Business Suite equipped aircraft.
If the available (blue) seats have NO notch in the front (are perfectly square), it’s a B/E Aerospace Super Diamond Solo equipped aircraft.

See HAECO interviews AA article here.
Longboater states the last 777 pre-CIP changes to CIP flight was 772 MIA-SCL July 5, 2017. The last old "NGBC" aircraft went to HAECO HKG 23 July 2017 for refitting.
The Points Guy (link) states AA will begin retrofitting 772s with three rows of 2-4-2 seating Premium Economy in June 2017 and finish in Q2 of 2018. AA will treat these as Main Cabin Extra for sales purposes until 15 Dec 2017.
There are 47 Boeing 777-223ER total in the AA fleet. They may be as follows:
13 refurbished 777-200ER (AA coded "772") with 45 Business seats with full flat solo suites with all aisle access, forward and aft facing, with the Zodiac Concept D Business Suite in Business, 55 Main Cabin Extra and 160 Economy seats. Link to SeatGuru "version 2" seat chart.
6 refurbished 777-200ER (AA coded "772") with with 37 Business seats with full flat solo suites with all aisle access, forward and aft facing, with the Zodiac Concept D Business Suite in Business, 58 Main Cabin Extra and 194 Economy seats. Link to SeatGuru "version 3" with 37 J seats.
The remainder of the 28 777-200ER fleet (currently AA coded as "772") is comprised of aircraft with 37 B/E Aerospace Super Diamond Solo all forward facing (at an angle to the fuselage center line) Business class, 58 MCE and 194 Economy seats. (No seat chart on SeatGuru yet, but the "Version 3" will probably suffice for MCE and Economy.)"
NOTE:,Premium Economy seating to be added (completion June 2018) resulting in loss of some Economy seats.

Zodiac Concept D Business Suite seat production problem slowed the CIP / refit to a crawl. (The Zodiac contract was terminated and a suit filed against Zodiac 24 Sep 2015.)
The airframes required infrastructure changes to support the new seats etc. and the reconfiguration was accomplished at the airframe's scheduled maintenance "C" check (performed by HAECO at HKG):
Widebody "C" Checks
Because of the complexity of widebody aircraft, all "C" checks are "Heavy C" checks. The complete airframe inspection and service is done every 24 - 30 months. It takes approximately 10,000 man-hours and from two to four weeks to accomplish a widebody "C" check.

I much prefer the B/E Super Diamond seat to the Zodiac Concept D seat. The Zodiac seat had too many issues...

Flight AA 62 MIA to CDG
I hope Im in the right thread... I hope the experts here can help me, im a newbie at this
Business is a big splurge for me so i want to make sure i get the best seats for my situation.
I am flying MIA-CDG on August 1st Flight #62 with my wife for our 10th Anniversary. I reserved 8D and 8H.
I am totally confused as to which seats and configuration this flight will have.
is it this https://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Am..._777-200_C.php
or this
https://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Am..._777-200_B.php
I think they are the rear facing ones and i chose those since it seems like they have the best option for couples to be able to talk and communicate (heads together, feet facing out).
I have read somewhere that the partition for the rear facing seats may be stuck in the "up position". Can anyone corroborate? This would ruin our flight, so in that case i would change seats. Any suggestions? Have any here flown #62 in business?
a link to some photos of the correct configuration would be greatly appreciated as well...
THANKS!

However, you don't know if Zodiac (front/rear seating) or Super Diamond (front facing only).
Seatguru doesn't show Super Diamond config (37 b/c seats).

N790AN is leaving for DFW on 6/16, may or may not to HAECO.
Now that the final batch is in mod, wonder how they are coming back to the US. Similar to two DFW-HKG flights last year, I can see these three odd flights in August:
AA122 1:00pm-11:10am NRT-ORD 772, 8/6 & 8/11
AA122 1:00pm-10:40am NRT-DFW 772, 8/23
There might be more. I just found them while searching for saver award seats. Saver award is extremely rare in August from Asia to the US.

Flew the 772 from BCN to JFK in J this week. Family of four on Saavers.
Zodiac seats. Very comfortable flight. Great plane.
Geez, Revenue Management can really predict loads...it seemed really lucky to find four Saavers months in advance....turns out there were several empty seats in J.

Yes...the timing would certainly fit. As of now, the seatmap on ExpertFlyer for flight 61 on the 16th reflects the v1 777, and N790AN is not scheduled to fly back on either flight 60 or 176.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the flight Im flying in August.
Can you advise which Zodiac seats you took (as a family of four) and if the rear facing middle seats had the partition stuck in the "up" position? Im flying with my wife it would really suck if we took the middle seats so as to be together and the partition was stuck up... Mixed information on the web about it... Which seats would you suggest i reserve?
Thanks

Your best move is to read http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...eat-seats.html, which contains extensive information in the Wikipost and posts. Post #1 has illustrations of both 772 Zodiac business cabins.
You can't tell about the dividers, as reports indicate some aircraft have had this problem resolved, others haven't. I can tell you the wall with the divider isn't conducive to talk unless you pop up like a gopher from time to time, and without divider isn't so couples friendly either - you're accessing different aisles, therefore can't assist each other with overhead baggage, attend to each other (my wife needs medication assistance in flight), and you may have to exit the aircraft separately and meet up in the jet bridge or just past it, for example. We select seats on the same aisle; it's not intimate, but in 51 years of marriage a few hours in an aircraft where we can still see each other hasn't been a problem.

N790AN is definitely on the way to HAECO by way of NRT today. N787AL is scheduled to return to service on AA 176 on Sunday, June 19th.

Updated wiki to include all of the latest changes. As only two unmodded 772s are left, flying MIA-MXP-MIA-SCL-MIA rotations until the next 772, N799AN, finishes up at HAECO, in which one of them will fly MIA-DFW-NRT-HKG. If flying MIA-SCL/MXP between now and July 5, be prepared for a sub to a reconfigured aircraft. The final unmodded 772 will likely be a substitution spare until N792AN finishes up at HAECO. I also created a section for Premium Economy installation, which has started with the first "low-J" 772, N781AN, going to KPAE for configuration. No idea how long N781AN will spend at KPAE but its a safe bet it will at least a few more weeks before it returns to service.

I also created a section for Premium Economy installation, which has started with the first "low-J" 772, N781AN, going to KPAE for configuration. No idea how long N781AN will spend at KPAE but its a safe bet it will at least a few more weeks before it returns to service.

2 good friends of mine booked paid J on AA907 tonight - MIA-EZE. Were originally booked on 772 v3 - walked on plane and it was the old 777 with angled lie flat and all. Ends up they are on N758AN. Their meltdown via text made my night

This is exactly the reply i needed. The link was very informative (hadnt seen that thread) and i have taken your advice regarding 2 aisle seats, i selected 7H and 7L since those looked the best couple seats based on seatguru map. Looks like we would be kinda face to face across the aisle... rows 5,7,8 and 9 are completely open, should i change? I wish there was a picture to show me...
Last Q. Is it possible to confirm closer to date of flight when they assign the actual plane to the flight if it might be super diamond seats? In that case id probably switch back to the 2 middle.

Doing MIA-SCL on Monday. I assume it will be my final flight on an unmodified 772. Goodbye 2-3-2.
