I noticed that the AA page for these benefits on AS also says it may take up to 30 days for mileage to post. Doesn't sound like something I would want to risk closer to December. The whole "send us receipts, letter" etc can cause headaches at the end of the year if trying to requalify.
The cases where you're most likely to have problems (that might require followup), as with any partners, is in IRROPS where you're rebooked in a panic and such, especially if you forget to make sure your AA number is in such a panic rebooking.

Please note: before posting existing questions , check the OP of this thread, which lists the new perquisites accruing to AAdvantage Elite members under the new AA-AS reciprocal agreement.

If I am an AAdmirals Club member flying Alaska on an AA marketed code share (flight 6865), can I still get access to the Alaska boardroom?
Technically, the fine print says "operated and marketed by American Airlines".

Honestly I hope that we'll see upgrades as well in the future even if EXPs are placed behind MVPs.
More importantly though, I think it would be great if AC membership gave you BR access when flying Alaska Airlines as well.

Last year all this only applied if you booked the AS flight as an AA flight number (codeshare). The change is that it now applies no matter whether you book with an AA flight number or AS flight number.

We are excited to announce that, as an AAdvantage Gold® member, you can now enjoy elite status benefits when flying on Alaska Airlines. These new benefits include:
• Priority check-in
• Priority boarding
• Waived checked baggage charges for the first two bags
Our relationship with Alaska Airlines has been in place for more than ten years and provides you with the opportunity to utilize their extensive network to earn and redeem AAdvantage® miles. And, of course, the miles you earn for travel on Alaska also count toward your qualification for elite status in the AAdvantage program.

I reread my email twice thinking that maybe there was actual news here. "AA is excited to announce"... nothing new, move along.

I actually like the idea of being allowed two checked bags on AS, and was somewhat impressed my AS bookings are automatically reflecting my AAdvantage status. I doubt AC/BR reciprocity is coming, but it would be nice whilst flying on AS to access Board Rooms with my AC card.

I don't see upgrade reciprosity in the cards anytime soon. There would have to be some reconciliation between AS's complimentary upgrades for all Elites vs AA's 500 mile sticker upgrades.
I"m just glad to have no baggage fee and to be able to select exit row seats. I had matched to AS MVPG last year to see if I liked AS better than AA but decided to stick with AA. Nice to know that I can still get exit row seats on AS for the short flights I'll have to either SEA-LAX or SEA-SFO (2 hours max). That works great for me to keep AA status.
And, with my Amex Plat and the Priority Pass Select membership it includes I'll have access to the AS BoardRoom for my AA departures.
Works out pretty well for me.

Should I be able to select the preferred seats when booking on AS.com, or am I missing something? Or, do I have to wait until I actually buy the ticket?

If it works the same as for DL elites, the itin must be ticketed (not just purchased, ticketed) for the AS system to recognize your elite status. Try selecting seats a few hours after your purchase.

Something I don't see explained either here or at the aa.com site so far:
How exactly do you access these benefits, in particular when booking on Alaska's website?
Ie, is it keyed to entering your AA number while booking on Alaska's website (and them now having a way to look up what your elite status is)? Is it instant (ie, you can pick preferred seating while confirming the reservation), or is there a delay (ie, you have to come back later to pick preferred seating)?
Or do you have to book on aa.com for these benefits to work? (I see no mention of any booking method requirement in what AA has written up.)
And is there a way to get these benefits yet end up earning AS miles in the end (perhaps by switching to an AS number at check-in or at the gate), similar to how some people do with AA vs BA? Or will that cause you to lose your Preferred Seating?

I think my question is in a similar vein, which I don't see addressed in the OP, unless it is in the wiki, which my work computer doesn't want to load:
I'm going to be flying out on AS and would like to check 2 bags free, based on my AA Platinum status. However, my continuing flights are on Delta, not AS, so I currently have my AS FF# on the reservation so as to get mileage for all 3 flight segments. I do not have status on AS, and no desire at this time to do a status match. So...will I get my free bags by showing my platinum card, or do I need to change the FF# to my AAdvantage number? I assume, I can then have the Delta agent in Seattle add my AS number for the other 2 segments.
Would love an answer, as I will mail some of my things home if I were to have to pay for checked bags.

With AA, you can call them up in advance and apply diff #s to diff segments. I have an AS-AA-AA set of flights booked through AA.com coming up with my AS MVPG # on the first segment and my AA EXP # on the other two. EXP desk was happy to do #s by segments. Best upgrade odds this way

Thanks...but my main question (convoluted as it was) is:
Can I be booked under my AS number (not elite) and just show my AA Platinum card at checkin to get my free bags? Or do I have to be booked with my AA number?
If it's the 2nd, I'll just go with that and then have the Delta agent add the AS number when I get to SEA.
