Flew KTN-JNU on AS 67 (N528AS) and inspected Y while on the ground in SIT. Rows 6 thru 10 are PE. I sat in one of the seats and agree there's a goodly amount of legroom. It felt like it was 80% of exit row. My assigned seat was 1C and that felt almost like being in bulkhead on the combi.
The visual demarcation between rows 10 and 11 was readily apparent.
Per the F FA, they won't start to charge until all the planes have been reconfigured. She mentioned she heard that it will cost $100 to upgauge from steerage into PE. I shuddered. I think $100 is a little steep and of course, we have yet to hear how elites will be handled (with kid gloves, I hope and trust).
If someone who bought a PE seat wants to move back into a fully empty row in Y, the FA will be able to refund the PE upgrade amount on the spot with their handy-dandy device. They will also be enforcing against poachers.
The entire SIT station, it seemed, came on to take a look. Apparently a reconfigured plane had yet to come thru here.

$100 to "upgrade" to PE? Uh, I don't think we want to hear how elites will be handled...I can see some sort of "discount" for elites, but if they're hoping to get $100 for a PE seat, you better believe they're not going to be too excited about giving away those seats for "free" to elites. As I've said before, I think the best plan right now is to lock in as many advance seat assignments as you can in what will soon be the PE section.

AS charges $50 for F as a gate upgrade across a large swath of their network. How's $100 for a worse seat and less "free" stuff going to work?

Exactly! Im sure the fees will be higher than the current Preferred+ pricing given that the product is supposed to be better. Even when cross comparing to Delta Comfort seats where you get unlimited drinks and snacks and spacious seating, the fees on short flights like LAX-LAS are nothing close to $100. And with the never ending competition with Delta especially in Seattle, Alaska would have to price the new Y+ competitively and appropriately. Now I can see such a fee on the longer routes such as the Hawaii market or Central America and the LAX-ANC route etc.

So yes, her mention of $100 was speculative. Note that I go on to mention it remains to be seen how elites will be handled.
The proof will be in the pudding.

You would be amazed - distressed - at how much Delta and United ask for Comfort+ and Economy Plus seats. ATL-SFO (DL) was $120 each way a few years ago. AS may not get that premium per mile when paid availability first rolls out but one can be confident that will be the goal.

I don't see many people wanting to pay much for a PE middle seat and you will see them mostly go to last minute seat assignments. I do like how many airlines now show a price by each seat and think through the value now of each seat. I know Alaska likes to keep things more simple though which is fine.
Now, if they would implement middle seat blocking next to 75Ks, then I will be happy (Used to be done on United a few years ago)
