have you checked the terms+conditions of both to compare at least ? Can be interesting to show how (i guess) amex signed a very bad deal with AXA (for end users of course)

I did not do a word for word comparison, but the travel related cover is similar to what AMEX-NL offers. As AMEX cancelled travel only, I am only interested in travel because due to COVID restrictions I can not return home to the Far East, but I do move around in Europe.
As far as car rental VISA is much more liberal than AMEX in that car rental does not need to be part of a trip, as long as it is taken at a certain distance from the residence. The avoided extra car insurances have already balanced my yearly VISA fee.
I agree that we are probably not getting the best T&C from AMEX NL and in my experience from several contact with agents, when I mentioned it, nobody gives a ?!%@ and nobody bothers to mention it to more senior management in AMEX NL.

what do they ask during the personal visit? I personally refuse to provide my salary and more information than just my bank account number (which they already have anyway)

For car rental insurance, people must be very careful with the insurance provided by AXA on VISA cards: AXA has an exclusion list based on car brands, one must be very careful not to be assigned a car from one of these brands (Infiniti, Lexus, Jeep...)

But Amex also has limitations as well and some of them surprising. I learned that the hard way with a very average car- a Holden- in NZ two years ago.

I got my card from HSBC in France.
The T&C only restrict the type of rental companies that can be used. Hertz, Avis etc are OK
