I booked some months ago a flight to Hong Kong in P for February 2021 to go there with my wife and daughter on holidays (I know, I was maybe too optimistic regarding the evolution of the virus!). I have just been informed that P is discontinued on HK and Singapore AF flights from January 2021 until at least end of March 2021... I therefore cancelled my tickets and I will see other options of holidays (probably in France...). I am very surprised by such decision by AF at a time they are in dire need for clients and revenues (3 return tickets to HK in P is not a small amount of money)!

But there is currently no nonstop flights to HKG anymore. Both CX and AF have suspended their flights. CX was planning to reintroduce 2 weekly in September but cancelled them. AF is scheduling 1 weekly with a stop in BKK.
There is basically almost no demand for HKG, only expats residing there. It is very doubtful that Hong Kong will allow European tourists by February.
Basically, AF does not need P on this route.for the foreseeable future.

I flew CDG-SFO yesterday and there was one person in P. I asked one of the flight attendants about their current service and he claimed it’s been returned to almost pre-Clovid levels. He didn’t quite expand on what almost means. Sadly I can’t offer first hand knowledge, €2K for the upgrade wasn’t going to happen.

Business travel is close to a standstill, and a lot of people will, like you, replace their plans for long haul flying by domestic or regional travel. In short, the demand for P is likely to be minimal, and the cabin was never a big revenue generator in the first place, more of a prestige generator. Right now, this simply is not the priority and realistically, I suspect that all major airlines will drastically reduce their F offering throughout the crisis, however sad this may be to many.

Should have asked the P pax upon landing (if you were also waiting there for many minutes). Would have considered the upgrade but flying on 10th August it felt like what would be offered is virtually J service with P seat (especially when the plane took off from G gates instead of A gates and thus no lounge access).
