Why won’t air Canada delay a flight until it knows how much to delay it? 07:00 in CDG and AC873 still showing on time at 12:05. Supplied by AC872 which is currently posting a 4:50 delay and “expected to depart in 0:30 minutes”, but best I can tell by my no movement on the cleared upgrade list hasn’t even started boarding as it takes 8h to tow a plane from domestic to international. Anyone not paying attention might believe that AC873 might not be delayed by 5+ hours and think about heading to the airport.
i understand when you’re delayed by an hour you don’t want to post an update until departs and you actually leave understanding how long the delay will actually be, but this is just stupid. |
Over an hour on the ground at YYZ waiting for a gate to park at…. Fun times!

I do have sympathy for AC given the weather in YYZ, but agree with your point. Just be realistic when the inbound is delayed, especially when there is no chance of using a different aircraft. Edit: Looks like 872 is cancelled. I don't know about 873, but there are worse places to be stranded than in Paris, assuming you don't have a pressing need to get back. Best of luck! |
Flight 873 to YYZ (from CDG) was already delayed 3 hours after the first snowstorm when I took 871 to YUL this Saturday (15th) which was on time. Flights from YUL seemed much less affected from this 2-part blizzard (last time I saw this much snow was 1971!) I was just happy to make it in between the 2 storms on Saturday!

Ended up getting an LH flight through FRA that requires a sprint to the airport, but made it just in time and got a shower in FRA and about to board the dreaded 744 to YYZ. I expect I might have still been on hold for the concierge. |
Last night my AC94 was cancelled and a few minutes later AC99 was cancelled. It's the same fin that goes down and back up so that makes sense. My AC APP still shows a valid BP for AC99, lol.
Much less red on this morning flight board. Also for those junior elites, stop yelling at AC staff for weather cancelations, they did not cause this. Saw way too many so called f/f loosing it on staff last night. |

Given the weather conditions, I’m glad that they’ve got out (and en route, albeit a couple of hours late - but I’m sure ground conditions and ops at YYZ must have been a challenge for everyone working today, all credit to them for doing a good job).
Mrs Sofasurfer was told by a desk agent airside that they should be in line for a refund (which surprised me - can anyone confirm this?), and gave them a card which just seems to have a bunch of customer support contact details - customer relations, baggage, refund services, and flight info/reservations). I’ve got pics of their BPs that confirm they were allocated Y seats, and took a screen grab of the flight status webpage with the FIN #. Original booking confirmation email shows PY, presumably that’s everything I need to follow up… the only thing that isn’t clear to me is how exactly one should proceed in this particular case. I took a look at the menu options on the “refunds” site and nothing seemed to be appropriate. Not even sure what is reasonable to expect in such circumstances (to be clear, this is only about the downgrade from what we booked with AP miles - not expecting, nor seeking anything pertaining to WX-related delays!). Any input / advice from experienced hands would be greatly welcomed! |

had something similar happen with a paid J fare last week. Messaged them through the contact centre and received a 50% refund in less than 2 days. I suspect AP will do something similar if you booked an award flight.

Can someone with magic access please tell me the AC side of AC8876 yesterday (Feb 16th)?
I know there was a storm in YYZ but: 1. luggage door was frozen and could not be closed, followed by 2. tug too light to push back the plane because the wheels were spinning, 3. brakes were frozen so flight eventually cancelled (2.5 hrs after boarding doors closed) AC agents call this "uncontrollable" because of the weather but methinks winter is not same as weather, and I might ask for compensation as this trickled down to an overnight stay (with other cancellations after other rebookings). |

According to ExpertFlyer, AC saw this as a weather delay:
Personal best for me yesterday: 4 flight cancelled on a single day, plus one booking pulled by a CSR as the flight was going to be cancelled. I call this 4.5 cancellations. |
Finally arrived in YUL on AC408 after I think five gate changes in YYZ and now the gate is broken. Stuck on the aircraft while waiting for YUL to fix gate #2. Funny two months ago it was gate #1 that had a similar failure.
So we wait again, this weekend so far is all about waiting. Conceige finally getting back to me 13 hours after I emailed them. I guess I was not the only one who reached out for help, lol. I hope those Montreal smoke meat sandwiches are in the MLL |
Anyone know how long YYZ will be closed? We are diverting to PIT and really wish we’d brought winter clothes if we end up driving home.
