AC was willing to rebook to CX direct for me for both YYZ-HKG and HKG-YYZ (this option showed up on the self-accommodation tool)

AC cancelled this morning's DFW - > YYZ late yesterday afternoon. Wise move, have numerous colleagues stranded there today with the snow and sleet. Although I went from J to a very cramped Y middle seat, I was grateful to get out.

However, they could only get me out on American Airlines. Will I still receive SQM/SQD for this segment? (Searched this thread for SQM and no hits)

Last year, I had an IRROPs with AC. Aeroplan redemption YYZ-JFK-HND in AC J/NH F. YYZ-JFK was cancelled "due to weather". Needless to say, I was pretty annoyed.

AC rebooked me on ACA1 YYZ-HND in J. However, I wasn't about to let my NH F experience slip away. Did some research on alternate connecting flights (the only time I'll be thankful for a 15 hour connection):
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/35994298-post108.html

And managed to be rebooked onto YYZ-LGA/JFK-HND. Someone (I have no clue how to tag another user...) told me to try to reach out for reimbursement on the airport transfer between LGA and JFK:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/35994800-post109.html

Which I just did a few days ago. To much surprise, AC actually agreed to reimburse the rideshare cost (equivalent CAD 113). Just waiting on the etransfer now.

Update: Paid Jan 6/7 via eTransfer autodeposit, no issues. Pointing this out as one of my two emails said to disable autodeposit, and both emails contain a security answer, but ultimately neither was required.

AC ticket. AC flight en route and delayed so J passenger no longer within mct to A3 connecting flight. Will itinerary automatically be changed by someone? Will it stay unchanged until the connection is actually missed and passenger should race through customs and security to try and make connection?

I had a really interesting episode yesterday; I was returning from LAS via YVR to YYC, and after landing at YVR, I found that AC206 was canceled. I checked the incoming FIN 539, which was still in flight and not due to land for another 25 minutes, I received the standard we will rebook you within 30 min text and then another stating we are sorry we are still trying to rebook you. I checked Flightradar and found Fin 539 is now AC 212 and leaving in 1.5 hours. I went down to customer service outside the lounge, and after standing in the priority line for 20 minutes, I was told there was no availability until AC 224 at 18:55 (Fin 539). While in line, I witnessed at least four others get booked on AC 212. When I asked if I wanted to speak with a manager, which I did, she was very nice, but what she told me did not make much sense. She explained that since I was flying J class, the auto tool would only rebook me into J space, and it first looked for Handicap and limited access and then J, so since no J was available until 18:55, that was my only choice.I explained that I wanted the earliest flight. After all, I am 50K and should have some advantage over the basic economy.
Has anyone else heard of this J class rule?

I've never heard them refuse to rebook you in positive space in a lower cabin than what you paid for.

They didn't refuse after I went to customer service but they insisted that the auto rebooking would only do J. So my lesson should be if I am in that situation again to go to customer service right away. They were going to manually put me on AC 222 which should have been earlier but just as they were assigning the seat it came up delayed and landed 10 minutes after 224.

That's not unreasonable. you would expect them to rebook you in J if that's what you bought. That if you want them to rebook you in a lower class, that you would need to let them know.

Yeah, though I wonder how it works with PY on routes where not every flight has PY, or if it will just punt you to the next day, even if there are plenty of flights leaving every few hours.

Wouldn't think it would be THAT hard for the auto-rebook tool to generate a text message saying "we have rebooked you on the earliest flight in your ticketed cabin, however earlier flights are available in lower classes of service. Please contact a Customer Service agent if you would like to rebook an earlier flight in a lower class of service".

Like, no change to the function of the auto-rebooking tool, just a flag to the user that if they'd like to step outside of procedure they need to go see a human.

Yeah, that would be an easy one.

Even better would be presenting you with a list of options, though I've seen some other airline rebooking tools where it gives zero indication that it's rebooking you in a lower cabin when you make the selection. I want all options available to me. My decision might be very different in terms of accepting Y for my second segment on SFO-YYZ-YOW than YOW-YYZ-SFO.

Oh I agree, but I try not to expect too much from an IT system that literally can't open pages in Safari.

Signature Service YVR to YEG

Received a nice surprise today when my seat 3F on AC 244 this evening became seat 3K on a 787. Aside from a delay for catering and only having warm nuts rather than the usual snack in J on this route it was a good way to end the day of travel. Now about my missing checked bag…
