I'd easily pay $100/hour to upgrade from AC J to NH F.
I share the same sentiment. I'm not annoyed at AC for rebooking me and getting me to my final destination, I was annoyed that I went from expecting a first class experience to business, with no proactive means of reimbursement for the experience difference. (though I think if I called and asked, I would have gotten *something* - even if it's a modicum of points). I know that this exact date in AC 1 J was bookable for 72-73k AP as of 1.5-2 weeks ago, and I would have gladly kept AC 1 if NH F (+ refund of some amount of Aeroplan points) was never on the table.

I always suggest you do your homework and then call in to tell them what you need them to do, not ask them for options.
You shouldn't need to say anything other than 'AC cancelled Flight XZY to JFK so I need you to re-book me on Flight ABC to EWR/LGA, can you please confirm that for me, I see there is space.'
Yes, I got it resolved, and yes it was only because I did my homework.
Agent said "I can't see any availability with a direct flight JFK HND in the system". I promptly told her my priority was to keep NH F JFK-HND, and that I was open to any and all options to get into a NY area airport either tonight or tomorrow morning - including airport changes. Mentioned that my existing itinerary was a result of a forced rebooking due to IRROPS, not something as a result of speaking to an agent.
Agent didn't originally want to help (or thought it was possible to help) until I mentioned I was opened to airport changes in NYC.
After some back and forth, the agent escalated to a supervisor. Supervisor mentioned they would able to reinstate my PNR with NH F JFK-HND if I was willing to accept an airport change (YYZ - LGA / JFK - HND).
Agent originally suggested I take a morning flight (0740 from YYZ) but I remembered after I said yes that LGA <- -> JFK MCT is 4 hours and wasn't legal.
Ended up accepting the last flight out of YYZ to LGA (2055 departure), which coincidentally is the same timing (departure/arrival) as YYZ-JFK. Took the last available seat in J, Y was already full.
I'm having a super hard time understanding the rationale on why YYZ-JFK was cancelled for weather related concerns, when YYZ-LGA (same time, filed flight time 5 minutes longer than the JFK flight) was full in both Y/J and wasn't cancelled.
I never find it easy to give benefit of doubt to AC, but at least in this instance - they played ball and gave me mostly what I wanted.
