Strong start to the year with AC.

Flight is delayed due to late inbound. Which of course arrived early on its last leg, but must have been subbed in for another aircraft, given the tight turn between that flight and the inbound for my flight.

AC posted a 1-hour delay to my flight, because somehow a 20-minute departure delay on the inbound was going to become a 45-minute arrival delay, which would somehow cause another 15 minutes of delay on the turn.

Of course, 27 minutes after the 1-hour delay was posted, they sent an e-mail saying the flight is "departing early". Really what they mean is "less delayed", in that they shaved 20 minutes off the delay. But it's definitely not early, it's still 40 minutes late.

Of course, now the inbound has left, it departed 23 minutes late and is predicted to make up 10 minutes of that in-flight.

And just as I've been typing this, AC has shaved 10 minutes off the delay. I'm looking forward to yet another e-mail about how we're "departing early"

I appreciate their attempts to communicate more proactively on delays in the last year or two, but the process clearly still needs some work.

Perhaps "less delayed" is so uncommon for AC that it's not in their list of notifications.

Ironically, my UA texts today said exactly that:
1) Delayed till 4:30pm due to late crew.
2) "less delayed, now departing 4:20pm"

January 2 delay at YYZ (AC261)
Annoying start to 2025:

We are on FIN 483 to YWG (it was FIN 467 until a couple of hours before the scheduled departure). Gate agents announced just prior to boarding that there was no IFE nor wifi. Great.

There have been rolling delays due to an external part that has to be closed manually by maintenance crews. The pilot announced that we were to wait out a band of snow, deice, return to the gate, and then the panel would be closed by maintenance.

Passengers received $20 meal vouchers sent to their mobile app; however, we are onboard, and some people wont return to YYZ within the 72-hours validity, so thats helpful.

Update: Operations have decided now that we will take another plane to YWG (FIN 484). I can now use my voucher. Yay!

Proactive rebooking
I am flying out of YYT early on Sunday, with a connection (one flight a day) in YYZ. There is already a special weather statement from Environment Canada and I am wondering if I can proactively ask to be rebooked on a flight to YYZ on Saturday to ensure I make the connection on Sunday. Or do I have to wait until AC issues a travel advisory. I'm reluctant to do the latter, as flights out of YYT will be packed this weekend as the holidays end. I haven't contacted the concierge yet as I would like to know what to expect and what can reasonably be asked for. On a latitude fare in case that matters.

Thanks.

If I were you, I'd call the Concierge and tell them what you need them to do and why...what's the worst they're going to say 'No'? If they do, then you can wait for a travel advisory.

You know that Air Canada monitors you, and decided to delay you, because they wanted to give you the opportunity as Moderator to be first to post in the 2025 delays thread.

Just saying.

What I hear around this forum is that every AC flight is delayed always, so surely there were many other FTers delayed in 2025 long before I was

014 ticket with A3 flight connecting to AC booked in Y with AC segment confirmed R. A3 delays flight but never posts an official delay so AC can't touch ticket. Eventually, as flight is enroute, A3 sends notification of rebooking via BA in Y with new ticket stock 390 (A3). AC concierge says she can't touch ticket so eventually I got A3 to switch from BA to later AC flight but only in Y because A3 says it does not recognize R class. AC refused to confirm seat in R/J, which was J8 R0, though upgrade did eventually clear wl at the gate. Was this handled correctly by AC?

Last year, I had an IRROPs with AC. Aeroplan redemption YYZ-JFK-HND in AC J/NH F. YYZ-JFK was cancelled "due to weather". Needless to say, I was pretty annoyed.

AC rebooked me on ACA1 YYZ-HND in J. However, I wasn't about to let my NH F experience slip away. Did some research on alternate connecting flights (the only time I'll be thankful for a 15 hour connection):
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/35994298-post108.html

And managed to be rebooked onto YYZ-LGA/JFK-HND. Someone (I have no clue how to tag another user...) told me to try to reach out for reimbursement on the airport transfer between LGA and JFK:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/35994800-post109.html

Which I just did a few days ago. To much surprise, AC actually agreed to reimburse the rideshare cost (equivalent CAD 113). Just waiting on the etransfer now.

You got your Travel Advisory for the 5th so I hope you were able to make the change and get off the rock to make your connection!

Aeroplan J ticket for this am but plane was swapped for a dash 8 ( I didn't even know that they flew them out of NY) and no J class. No suitable alternatives because my timing is too tight today. What is procdure for comp?

I've done this for Aeroplan and cash tickets, and they've always come back with a fair refund amount for me (like the difference between what I paid and what Standard would have cost at time of ticketing). For Aeroplan, call Aeroplan after travel.

You could also probably write in about your displeasure and get a discount code or eCoupon as well.

Question: If AC alerts me that my flight will be delayed by 2 hours a day before departure, could I show up to the airport later? Heard stories of check-in counters closing according to the scheduled departure but want to confirm.

P.S. My flight departs from HKG
