Does anyone know why AC195 (YYZ-YLW) diverted to YVR last night? Kelowna weather was light rain, calm winds. A friend was on that flight, has been trying to get there for several days (was supposed to go Monday).

Although other flights landed successfully around that time, AC is claiming weather.

Lowest generally available approach minimums have a recommended visibility of 2 1/4 miles.
ILS with the lower limits is u/s until the end of the month.
AC may not be authorized to use some of the RNAV approaches with lower limits.

Bolded weather were the conditions around the time of the diversion.
AC195 cancelled Thursday.

YYZ delays again tonight as YYZ was down to one runway for a half hour.

Max8 CFSDQ from PLS landed and was immobile on the runway and had to be towed to the gate.

Does anyone have the ATC audio for this? Curious what happened - assume overheated brakes but why would they stop on the runway and not roll to the last taxiway?

Usually means a steering issue. Possibly related to the hydraulic system?

AC823 Cancelled - 2/22/25

Hi,

My in-laws are currently at BCN ready to board AC823 to YUL, then a connection back to YYZ.

i noticed in the last few minutes that after some delays, today’s AC823 has been cancelled.

They will likely turn their phone on soon and will be looking for advice. Outside of directing them to the AC counter, is there any advice I should pass along?

They are not very savvy at navigating airports and rely on us to book flights going to and returning from their cruises.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you

A quick EF search showed most of todays remaining flights from BCN to US hubs are sold out. There is availability on a connecting flight through CMN, but it involves an overnight.

Since their flight was canceled due to a mechanical issue, AC might repair the plane and rebook them. If they don’t rebook them quickly I would suggest they ask to be booked on one of tomorrow’s flights through FRA then to YYZ. There is availability on both flights tomorrow. I wouldn’t normally recommend that seniors connect through FRA but most of the other hubs (MUC, VIE, ZRH, LIS) are sold out to both YUL and YYZ tomorrow.

There is availability tomorrow via LIS/FRA/AMS/CDG.

Air Canada is legally required to rebook on their next flight or any airline they interline with in your ticket cabin, which is pretty much every major airline judging by my experience ( if been rebooked to/from AC on Air France, Emirates and American Airlines to name a few).

The key is to be proactive and offer the agent the flight numbers you want to be booked on.

Ok that’s great information.
They called and said AC will be putting them up in a hotel overnight then flying them back tomorrow.
it was a very brief call so we’ll hear more later and I will provide an update then.
Will there be any compensation for them through EU 261 or is that negated by having a new flight booked?

Good to hear it is only a day. The new flight does not negate EU261 compensation, as it is based on the original flight arrival time. FWIW, I have put Air Canada in the "Use a compensation service" box for my EU261 complaints and I use AirHelp personally. My last compensation claim took nearly a year to settle, as they had to take Air Canada to court in the Netherlands to get compensation. Of course different people have different tolerances for following up with airlines.

Just heard back and they are still at the airport - 1st hotel is booked full so AC is looking for other options. No food vouchers but AC was clear that no one would be eligible for compensation. I told them to take it with a grain of salt and we’ll deal with AC when they get back.

The new flight is AC2023 as someone mentioned but now a 5 hour layover in YUL and AC431 leaving for YYZ at 10pm. They have a paid supp card on my wife’s Aeroplan Reserve so at least they can relax in the MLL for a bit tomorrow.

Got lucky today, that I was in the process of having my bag tags printed at YYZ business class checkin, just as my 12PM flight to YYC cancelled. The 245PM flight was J4 at that moment, and the agent grabbed me 2 of those immediately. A guy checking in with the agent at the kiosk next to me, could only get the 9PM flight, as every flight for the rest of the day until then, went to J0Y0 pretty fast. Unlucky, but lucky to have a quick agent.

But, waiting until 4 hours before flight time, before they will take my bags (5 more minutes). Said if I was already in the system on the earlier flight, they would follow me, but due to the way she moved me to the new flight, they need to be within 4 hours.

Edit - Now the new flight is delayed due to maintenance. I hope that doesn't lead to another cancellation.

AC688 YYZ-YYT cancelled because of weather here at YYZ maybe it's YYT and this is an error. Not sure if it's the clear skies or the beautiful sunshine but flight cancelled because of weather. It's a quick day trip MR and now looks like hours in airports in bad seats.

Left airside after landing here and saw the friendly folks at the conceige office, I just want to go home now. So bad seats on narrow body but I am going home today.
Three weeks in a row my destination has been cancelled by air Canada.......they are making me work for that 2MM!

tracon Mar 8, 2025 7:53 am

Most likely the YYT weather.
Bit of a storm going through today.

March break related? What's going on today....

I'm booked on 449 now standing by on 451.

Interestingly my wife (no status) got a $15 voucher but I (50k) got nothing.
Is it because of my lounge access?
