If that's the case and you feel UA will comp you during Christmas, why don't you just send me the SWUs and sit there and wait for the comp to come. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif[/B][/QUOTE]

Nope http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif: but I am only on the upgrade list, for the ORD to SIN http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Christmas and flying ORD-SIN trying to use SWUs as a non-1K? I hope you can get comfortable in that E+ seat for 20 hours. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif What day are you going?

UA will comp people on CHEAP fares and I love that!</font>
Both airlines will do it. I've gotten comp upgrade on UA as well. Sitting in a E+ seat for HKG-LAX, the guy next to me was really ticked off because he had to sit in a middle seat and he didn't have enough legroom for his bag. Minutes later, the station manager came on, gave me a new boarding pass for C and gave my seat to a 1K. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">How have you managed to score comp upgrades on UA? I've always had to cash in 500-milers.</font>
Simple. I just show up.

Many of those comps were because the back was oversold. But on at least one occaision it seemed to be simply that they had open seats in F, and I was next in priority.

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">No one is saying AC is simply better because more cert. I am saying AC is better because the success rate is higher.</font>
But are you in a position to know that for certain? The couple of UA top-tiers that I know personally have upgrade averages about the same as mine. That is, whenever there is a cabin to upgrade into, they are able to upgrade.

(Nothing to upgrade on a CRJ of course. And it occurred to me overnight that perhaps the reduced C inventory is a way to get used to CRJs on trans-cons, where there will always be zero C space.)

OK not everyone gets the upgrade http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Empress/Ken you guys know the AC systems so well you get the upgrades, the rest of us DONT!
Look at this guy http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum5/HTML/011698.html

Yikes and look at the money he wasted and he did not get an E+ seat.

Scott218 Nov 16, 2003 9:41 am

So, really, all you guys really want is for AC to put a E+ product together. If your upgrades didn't clear, at least you still have a good E+ seat.

Ferrari Nov 16, 2003 9:46 am

All of the above arguments are based on AP staying the same....What's the chances of that!..

You have to remember that Rupert has got Milton pulling the strings, I really believe that if RD could do his own thing we would have a much better program, but as we all know Milton is on a power trip and he is a complete ..., you only have to look at what he has down in the past.!..

I think we should all wait for the 2004/5 program details to be released on Feb 27th then decide...

My critea next year will be how to get upgrades on the Long haul, who ever offers the best out of the programs will most lightly get my business.

AP have a huge chance this year to enhance the program that Milton has stripped..will they?...

I prefer upgrades I could use but the E+, would keep me happy http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Simon Nov 16, 2003 7:47 pm

Not likely on the E+ on AC. I have corresponded with an AC exec who has told me that they expect the larger pitch in coach to "not survive the latest round of restructuring" on US airlines. I think (think) that I heard AA was already cutting back. Hopefully UA does not follow suit.

Scott218 Nov 16, 2003 10:32 pm

I doubt UA will do away with E+. It's even putting them on TED. AA was stupid to take away MRTC. It's going to be more and more difficult for AC to compete with Westjet domestically. E+ might be an idea that's not entirely too expensive to do (in comparison to IFE, power at every seat, flat beds in business).

E+ will be a tangible visible perk. Making changes on AP program will really only cater to the few thousands who are into frequent flyer miles. There are zillions others (even SEs) that don't care about certificates and fare codes.

Successful businesses do not follow trends, they create them. Now that there is more cash, changes can be done.

I dont think AC will have more cash after CCAA
so I think we will sill have crummy upgrades and no E SEATING.

I don't know about the crummy U/G's but AC will have over $2 billion in cash on the day they emerge from CCAA.All those equity infusions are cash in the drawer and they currently have around $1 Billion in cash or equivalents
