SQ asked me, and then ignored my answer.

Back to OP's question then.....
Sleeping or Dining? Meal orders have been taken on the ground and no indication for flexible (hold-the-meal) dining has been indicated. International night flight - and a gentle nudge invokes no reaction. Is there a general preference to be woken up or to just stay down for the count until the next meal service?

BKK-MUC TG F, 6 hour layover, MUC-LAX LH F.
Two 12 hour flights, arriving mid afternoon at my destination.
I'm certainly not going to be sleeping the whole time, and I want to try the food and drinks that are offered.
Very different from something like a SFO-YYZ red-eye.
And is the food not a comfort?

With 24 hours of bum-in-seat, I don't think the back half of a mini-RTW itinerary is a realistic example of missing out on meal service due to sleep. Sure, you may miss one serving. But will have 4 or 5 other airborne meals, plus your connecting lounge time in the MUC lounge, to scarf down a quick bite.
A nice sticker would work well. No assumptions required.

That option already exists.
Express Light Option: As a quicker lighter option, enjoy your appetizer served with salad, cheese and fruit - presented all at once, soon after take-off
Most late night departures (876-FRA/858-LHR, etc) offer Express Hot all Inclusive trays served immediately after take-off.

As with others I agree with if it looks like I'm dozing in semi-reclined position, give me a nudge but If I'm fully reclined covered with duvet, let me sleep.

We agree. And a sticker would be too easy of a solution to the question I posed on the first page: "Being able to articulate one's mealtime preference to an FA should be a no-brainer mandatory pre-flight item. Why can't this question be answered prior to pushback?"

Sleeping - by a far margin over in-flight dining.
I never really understood the need to ingest so may (unhealthy?) calories and then be sedentary for then next 8 - 16 hours.
I just want to be left completely alone from boarding until deplaning. If I really need something, I'm adult enough to know how to subtly and discretely get the attention a cabin crew member.
I know crew have it hard, since they have to deal with all types, and actions usually boil down to the lowest common demonstrator. I wish there was some way to include in our FF profile some sort of flag that lets the crew know not to interact with me, sort of like a DNR for medical staff. ^
This is the prime reason why I always board at the last possible moment - I just don't want to be bothered by all the unnecessary questions related to pre-boarding drinks, meals, coats, etc. Just let me be and sleep!
