Good point about the Tango + bid up. That's weird though - why would AC let a front cabin go with empty seats when bids have been made? Assuming some minimum, it increases revenue. Or is this because of people like me who will spring for a P fare over a cheap bid up?

Bids are processed a few days out.

Should they fill the cabin 3 days out, making it impossible to buy a seat?

Obviously this is speculation on my part, but they don't want to create the expectation among FFs that they can hold out and get a J seat more cheaply through bidding rather than buying a confirmed ticket. That would reduce revenue in the long-term.

A smart algorithm would change the minimum bid based on the traveller's profile (i.e. offer that seat in a wide-open cabin to a first-time AC flyer to give them a "taste" and maybe interest them in more expensive J purchases later on).

If AC accepts minimum bids all the time, it sets an expectation that all you need to do is to bid minimum. By rejecting the minimum most of the time, they can artificially entice people to bid higher.

The purpose of this exercise is to increase revenue for Air Canada - not decrease it by cannibalizing confirmed J ticket sales.

But who is going to bid if the confirmed seats are cheaper?

YYC-YYZ min. bid $400 on X fare class. Accepted 96 hours out. I didn't think that would happen.

Still laughing. I assume the GAs doing the auction have performance targets and benchmarks to meet. :) thanks for posting.

ROFL reminds me of the "deal or no deal air canada" one. If we're all going to hate AC, at least we should hate AC funnily :D :D :D :D

Refunds for preferred seats on BidUp

Should AC automatically be refunding a preferred seat when a bid is won, or do I have to call?

Am I missing something or is there no reference to AQD in the AC FAQ or thread?

Does anyone know if confirmed bid payments count toward AQD (like eUpgrade add-ons do)?

They do not count for AQD, they are treated like LMUs
