I will be flying YUL-PVG next september in Y. Bidding start at CAD 1,300 one way for J :td:
Do you know if bidding range is adjusted as we approach departure ? Thanks On 1 occasion I had placed a bid and the range had been increased so that my bid was no longer in the range. I only found out when I had logged in. Interestingly my bid still appeared to be valid but if I wanted to increase it would have had to be at least the new minimum bid. |
HKG-YYZ
My first experience - as an SE again this year didn't expect to take advantage of this.
On a lark, checked my HKG-YYZ flight on Jun 3. Minimum bid was 750 (the same as a co-pay I paid last year). Figured, why not go with a minimum bid and see what happens. I didn't expect to see that accepted. Figure $50 per flight hour is a pretty good ROI. :) |
Thank you v much for all the responses and apologies again if i posted in wrong place.

for YYZ-MEX on Rouge, in 2 weeks .. suggested min bid was $417 for an upgrade.

YYZ-ZRH
I was hoping someone could help me out a bit. This year Altitude 25K (in past have been SE). Recently on a YUL to CDG had a Tango fare and bid $810 which was $10 over minimum (seemed like there were 6 business class seats left as I could buy that quantity on aircanada.com). It rejected my bid and seemed like it did not award any successful bids (was still able to buy 6 business class seats on aircanada.com). LMU was $1,299 (yikes - yes, they put the boots to me). :(
In two weeks, flying YYZ to ZRH, again Tango class, range is $630 to $1,400. The load is as follows: J9 C9 D8 Z7 P0 R0 O5 E4 N0 Y4 B4 M4 U3 H1 Q0 V0 (rest are 0). So, what do the experts say about how I get business class and minimize my costs? Thanks in advance. |
Bid the minimum $850 per seat for two seats, PE to J upgrade, for FRA-YYZ and was rejected. I'll be interested in what LMU offer comes up when I check in. There were 9 seats showing on the seat map when I looked after my bid was rejected, but of course I don't know how many are actually sold. It'll be interesting to see if the flight goes out with empty J seats.

Are LMUs regularly offered as long as the business class cabin is not fully booked once check-in opens 24hrs prior to departure, or are there restrictions on certain routes?
Looking to score one on LAX-YYZ. Via plusgrade the minimum bid is at $500, which I do find a little overpriced. |

I am also interested to know if it goes out with empty seats in J. And if anyone has the bid rejected but later finds themselves op-upped, please do tell. |

Bargain compared to the "offer" I got for YYZ-LAX
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28036654-post250.html (I assume yours was $CAD?) Wow, that is crazy. May as well book J right away and score full miles for that money. I paid US$ 230 for the LAX-YYZ, in Tango. In J, this would've been US$997. The offer range is between US$515 and US$945, even the former of which I find relatively pricey for a 4hr40m flight. Whats your flight number / take-off? I'm on the overnight haul, departure at like 1015pm local. I would assume for most people to be more willing to pay higher prices for a good nights sleep in J, rather than watch movies on a day flight. |

I was unable to LMU just my wife on this flight, which I would have preferred. It was both of us or none, which seems to be a limitation to the LMU process. |
A useful data point perhaps.
YVR->YYZ - June 11, offered min bid $600. says "a bit low"....then LMU offered at $444 at time of checkin June 21. Fare was dirt cheap K fare. Probably C$480 all in. coming back, min bid is 505. Am the only once that finds it a little deceptive how they "encourage" you to bid more? anyway, data none the less. |
The Bid Upgrade vs LMU is why I started this separate thread, to collect the different data points
