I don't know about crediting elsewhere, but it will definitely credit as the original fare class.

Thanks for the response!

I'm not sure if this is the right thread but am booked to fly latitude from YYC to FRA this coming Tuesday at 17:55. I have put in for an eupgrade which is a brutal 22 credits for this. I was wondering if anyone here had insight on what the actual T-24 hour check in upgrade would cost (I'm guessing $600-$800 each way?). Also, I've never used the upgrade bidding yet. Any ideas on how this works when I'm already on eupgrade wait list? There appears to be about 8 seats in J class here but I do not want to be stuck in the back for a very quick trip- 48 hours and back. I am SE100k this year as well.

Thanks!

EDIT: I answered my own question with bid upgrade, I guess it has to be outside 48 hours. Live and learn.

Bid Upgrade and Mileage Accumulation

Am I understanding this correctly?

According to the AC Bid Upgrade - FAQs

What are the fare rules of the upgraded ticket?

If your upgrade request is accepted, the fare conditions for the original ticket you purchased shall remain in effect and will be applicable with respect to cancellation policies, change fees, conditions for minimum and maximum stay, and rules relating to the accrual of frequent flyer miles. All other conditions will be per the upgraded fare class.

How many miles can I earn?

Aeroplan Miles may be accrued from flights auctioned in the AC bid upgrade online auction. The basis for calculation is the original booking class of the flight segment being auctioned and not the upgraded class of service.

https://www.aircanada.com/content/da...pgrade-FAQ.pdf

--------

So reading these FAQs, If you bought Flex or Tango and you bid for J and your bid was accepted, your AQM mileage accrual will only be for the original Flex or Tango ticket you purchased?

Why am I asking?

Well, I just read this and if I understand it correctly, LH does offer the mileage accrual of the upgraded class.

"Lufthansa just like other airlines use PLUSGRADE to facilitate the upgrade offer of their customers. The big advantage of PLUSGRADE: If an offer is accepted the booking class will be changed to an applicable revenue booking class of the new cabin of service and the passenger will earn mileage credit under this new fare code (in the case of Lufthansa Premium Economy it has been changed to N).That’s why I personally consider airline offers that are run by PLUSGRADE much more compared to other competitors on the market who only upgrade the cabin but not the fare class.

I had S class before which is a low (not the lowest, it’s still upgradable to Business with LH M&M instruments) booking class that would earn only 50% with both MIles & More as well as United Mileage Plus. The new N Class will earn me 100% with Mileage Plus plus 75% Bonus as Platinum Premier member. The extra miles could be seen as a smaller (or larger) discount if this approach makes you feel better about your investment. Especially if you need the qualifying miles!"

And I checked LH's MyOffer page as well

Can someone with better skills than me translate this, specifically, to confirm that AC does not give you more miles with your upgrade from the bid, but LH and UA do?

Thanks in advance.

24left, you should have flown with us over a decade ago when upgrade inventory bucket was C and we all got 25% COS!

canadiancow May 18, 2017 6:28 pm

On AC, I bet it changes to R.

Though someone who's done it can probably comment.

My questions were related to not earning COS for the upgrade bid on AC versus other airlines, thus why I provided all the detail

coleo May 19, 2017 1:06 am

FRA to YYC, bought a pricey latitude fare (was $100 more than Flex). Bid $750 for J on the route and it was accepted. Took 11 eupgrades on the way here so will save those for other routes. 787 pod = ^

It does change to R, just like any other upgrade.

Latitude FP complimentary upgrades rebook you into J, but still credit as Y.

While true, this can be seen as an exception to the general rule.

My experience -

May 22, 2017 - AC 7662 DFW-YYZ - E175 on an Aeroplan award ticket (X class)

First time I looked, they wanted $250 USD starting bid (I forget how much the upper limit was). Of course I didn't go for it.

I looked 2 weeks before the flight and it dropped to a $110 USD starting bid (again, I don't recall the upper limit)

I put in a $110 bid, being semi-hopeful that it would get accepted.

Well, it was accepted!

After the upgrade, I know that it was J5 (sorry...don't have ExpertFlyer so I don't know what P and R were after)

Yes, the upgraded class was R. I was also able to use the United lounge at DFW without hassle.

upgrading through bids

This actually is my first post - so forgive me if not in right forum or form. This upcoming trip means a lot and I am trying to make it special so I do need the help please.
Background:
My son graduated this month from med school, and has been assigned residency in Toronto for his surgical training ( eight years down - five more to go :-) He currently is touring Italy with friends and we will meet him in Europe to celebrate with the itinerary below.
My husband hates long distance travel due to an old neck/back injury which is aggravated on flights. for that reason, and to make it special as well, I wanted to explore upgrading to first class.

I have booked an open jaw for my husband and I - YYZ-MUC premium economy (E) on AC 330-300 and return CDG - YYZ premium economy (N) AC 777-300ER - for a total of $4444.50 and an additional Aeroplan reward on the return for my son on Y.

I seem to recall a long time ago reading on FT that there is a way to find out how many seats left in J etc... but after spending some time searching now -
I can not locate where the link is.

1) the bids start at 800 and up to 2100 for MUC .
For Paris it ends at 1900
I do not know what the original price for business class was - but how much is realistic to bid for. Do I have better opportunities at the gate?.
2) on return - my son is with us on the reward ticket. Can that be upgraded?and if so how? will reward tickets be eligible for bids?
I only have 6 eups left and realize nowhere near enough.

any help is appreciated, or please direct me to the links I should be referring to.
Thank you

What airline? Air Canada?
Booked direct with the airline, an online travel agent or a real travel agent?

Yes through Air Canada - and I booked directly through the AC rep on phone.

I can't help you with your question, but I've asked a moderator to move this to the AC forum, where you'll better input.

Not that there is much you can do about it now (and I don't know your dates of travel), but those prices seem pretty high for premium economy. I suspect you could have bought business seats for not much more (and possibly less) than the prices above + upgrade bid and had the certainty of travel in comfort. I could be wrong...
