Do you know what the load factor is like in Y? If it's fairly open, then I wouldn't value the bid much at all.

Here's what I was offered for tomorrow's YVR-YOW on a Dreamliner, from a cheap Flex fare:

Hi, new to bid upgrades and looking for advice on making a bid to upgrade from economy to business on the Aug 19th YUL-CAI flight. Minimum bid is 440USD and it's currently showing 8 open business class seats 9 days out. I previously bid 555USD but now that J is filling up I'm a bit worried that won't be enough. I'm considering raising it to $600. Does anyone have advice on this front based on these numbers? I'd really like to bid under $600, but I'm willing to pay a bit extra if it's much more likely to be successful. Thanks!

That flight is J4 R0. I'd be surprised if you got it with a $1000 bid. I'm not saying it's impossible, but AC doesn't like to fill the last few seats with upgrades, paid or otherwise, until the gate.

With this being your first post, welcome to FT.

Hi all, just to update: additional business class seats started opening up in the last few days and I was approved for the upgrade with a bid of $675. I think I overbid in the end, but for such a long flight that price is still worth it to me. Thanks for the welcome!

IMHO, still a pretty good price ($850CAD) for a 10 (?) hour flight. Enjoy your flight in J.

I was able to upgrade my family of 4 (2 adults, 1 child, 1 lap infant) from Economy to Business, for the minimum allowed bid of CAD$550 per person, total $1650 for the 4 of us. Flight was ATH-YUL and was worth every penny, as Economy was full.
Upgrade cleared at around 48 hours before the flight. Business class was 35 out of 40 on the 77W. All other cabins were full.

YVR-YYZ
AC126
Booked Economy Flex - A
Submitted lowest possible upgrade bid for Signature Class pod at the front - $440, said I would find out within 48 hours of flight. Got an accepted notification 60 hours ahead of flight....very happy for the red eye lie-flat. There was five seats open 3 days before and all got taken by bids/upgrades by the -2 day mark

Is this why it's been so freaking hard to find last minute J space on YVR-YYZ for tomorrow? I can appreciate taking some upgrades, but literally filling the cabin is annoying, given those of us who tend to book last minute.

Bid upgrade or lmu?

I want to surprise my father with an upgrade to Buisness class on his ATH YUL flight (10 hours) this sunday. The minimum bid is 780$. Does anyone know if a lmu is cheaper if there are still many seat available?

Thanks

Can't speak to the price, but it's J14.
