Hi, this is my first post on FT. I have read all messages from this thread for the last couple of months and am hoping someone can advise me about my upgrade questions.
I have booked a round trip flight for Toronto - Delhi (India) for ~1500 CAD. I'm departing from Toronto on December 25 and departing from Delhi on Feb 18. I would like to upgrade the return leg of my journey (Delhi - Toronto), which is currently in economy (class M), to Business Class. On the Upgrade Plus Grade website, the minimum bid is 1200 CAD and the maximum bid is 2500. The range 1560 to 1750 is being shown as pretty good. Can someone please guide me on the following questions: 1. Should I bid for the upgrade now or closer to my travel date or does it not matter? 2. If I were to bid in the next few days, what do you think is a good bid range? I'm a newbie on this forum, so if I have missed any details, feel free to point out. Thanks! 1) It doesn't matter when you place your bid. The system will look at all received bids at the deadline and go from there. Are you on AC 43 or 49? Both flights show at least 9 unsold business class seats right now. As bid deadline approaches, I can update the number of seats unsold and you can make a bid then to help you secure your upgrade. |

And they seem to be pretty stingy on upgrades on those Delhi flights from what I've seen. But the more you bid, the higher your chances. If you're booked in M, how much extra would Latitude be? When I booked mine, it was a negligible fare difference, but it gave me the option to move flights around as J loads changed, which I already did once to secure J in one direction. |

Welcome to FT! While I'm no expert, I will answer your question to the best of my ability. Other seasoned experts will contribute more as they see fit.

I'll connect with you closer to my travel date. I'm not a frequent flyer but I've observed that the business class is almost empty on that route on the few times my friends or I have been on the flight. I'm hoping that continues. |

I can't directly help here, but if you're on the 9am on the 25th, I might see you on board.

Also, unfortunately I did not check the fare difference for Latitude. I had checked fares for different dates the weekend before I actually booked. And they were close to 1200. When I tried booking 3-4 days later, my preferred dates were no longer available and the fares on other available flights had increased by 350 CAD. So I booked very fast and did not look at fares for other classes. I wasn't planning to upgrade then and did not know this was even a possibility. |
Big-Upgrades - Domestic
Flying YYC-YYZ next week on the dreamliner (Dec 9). Anyone have experience with bid upgrades on this? Early Covid I was usually able to do a PE upgrade around $180. For specifics, AC140 on Dec 9.
Seat map looks somewhat open in PE/J, but that's never a good indicator. Flying myself and fiance. So hoping to see what I can do on that flight. |

Have you received an email to Bid or have you looked on the PNR in My Bookings to see if the Bid options is available? It would be interesting to see what it is, but of course, it's December now and more people are travelling. FYI https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...27bbc4f517.png . |

FYI https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...27bbc4f517.png . I've usually been able to snag the PEs for 180 most times I'm on the dreamliner. The J not so much. LOL |

Upgrade to PE was accepted (on an aeroplan rewards flight!) at lowest cash offer --- $180 per person.
|
YVR-YWG-YVR later this month starting at $135 each way from Flex fare.
CRA both ways. |
I'm waitlisted for AC8843 (SFO-YVR) on Dec 19. Trying to book a new seat on that flight doesn't show any J (and Y starts at over $1100!). But today I got an email to bid for an upgrade?! Why would they do that and not offer to sell the seat for cash?

Bid upgrades get processed at about T-48. By that time, space in J could have opened up. So might as well take some bids, just in case. |
YUL-CUN-YUL
A330 Standard - O $150-$500 - J $235-$600 |
YYZ-CUR booked in Standard
AC wants 11 eUgrade credits and $250 add-on, or 25,000 Aeroplan points minimum in Bid Upgrade. Given that I'm continuously accumulating good amounts of free/cheap AP points, I think I'll go with Bid Upgrade and keep cash in the bank. |
