What was the original class of service/fare brand, and what cabin was the bid for? Economy Flex/Standard to Business? Economy to Premium Economy? Premium Economy to Business? If it's economy to business, that's a good price.

Basic Economy Fare and Upgrades

Hi guys,

Buying a ticket to Italy from YYZ on the economy basic fare. Noticed the website said I have to get the standard economy ticket to be eligible to upgrade. Does this mean I cannot participate in the “bid upgrade” or “last minute upgrade process”? Def would like to roll the dice there. Or is this only speaking to discretionary complimentary upgrades and eupgrade certificates? Thanks!

Hi & welcome to FlyerTalk!

I believe that would only apply to using eUpgrade credits. Normally, as long as you purchase the fare directly through Air Canada or a travel agent who issues the ticket on Air Canada ticket stock (0-14 ticket number) you would be allowed to bid for an upgrade or purchase a last-minute upgrade if it's offered.

Keep in mind that the fare class you purchase will have an impact on how much you'll need to bid to be successful, your status with the airline, & how many paid biz class tickets were actually sold.

For a last-minute upgrade, it would depend on whether there are still seats left after the system has already processed the bids & eUpgrade requests.

Good luck!

YYZ to YVR Economy to Business Bid $390-$500

What’s a good value for this bid-upgrade? Do you know if I get maple lounge access? It’s not the 787 but A321-200 (AC129)

I could spend that $500 and do a lot more in Vancouver for the weekend :) my trip back to yyz is the 787. Thoughts?

Only you can answer whether it's worth it to you. If $500 is no big deal to you, then go for it. Personally, I wouldn't spend that on that flight unless I were getting a pod on a wide-body. If you are after the meal and wine, just buy it on either side of your journey and pocket the remaining $400.
