It's listed as "AIRCANADAUPGRADE 000-00000 " (000-00000 being some digits related to the plusgrade file I suppose)

The rep said the transaction is tagged as "Other" not travel, therefore 1 point per dollar, not 2 X. It's the Platinum card.

"As a long time AMEX customer we offer you 1-time courtesy credit of 1500 points. We will not do that the next time." ... not exact words.

Stupid question time folks...

I feel it's related to this thread, apologies if not.

I was successful in a bid upgrade (from Economy to Signature Class on route FRA > YYZ) I'm guessing it does, but can anyone confirm if this will allow MLL access during my layover in FRA? I tried looking at my booking to see if it said anywhere on there but I couldn't seem to find it.

Yes. Bid Upgrades includes standard MLL only and not the Signature Suite at YYZ.

I had this same issue a year or so ago and phoned Amex to argue the point. They said it was from "financial department " at AC or something to that effect and said they would offer me the courtesy of 1.5x the points instead of 2x the points (Gold card). I said I thought the only fair number of points was 2x as it was foolish to suggest something with the name Air Canada in it was not travel related. They relented, but it was like pulling teeth to get them to do it.

I had that issue with Aeroplan fees through Chase. It wasn't many points, and the offered a courtesy credit, but I wanted them to fix it. It's hard to argue a flight booking/change/cancellation fee isn't "travel".

But "Aeroplan" wasn't code as travel, and I suspect Plusgrade isn't either.

And I'm back again. I scanned the thread, and while I seen some related post, there's been nothing recently. I placed a bid for Premium Rouge (not sure if that is classified as J or not) the 48 hours have passed, currently at hour 42 until take off. There's been no email to say my bid has been successful/rejected/unsuccessful, or anything. When I check on it through the bid upgrade system, it is still just listed as "Pending". As anyone else faced this recently? I don't remember ever having an unsuccessful bid, and everytime I've been successful, my notice happened around the 48 hour mark, so this is new ground for me. Do they still notify if the bid was unsuccessful? Around when do they let you know?

As reported above, I got no notification for Dec 2 flight that bid was successful or unsuccessful, but when I went to check in I had a business class seat and when I checked there had been a charge on my credit card the day before, probably about 48 hours before flight.

Also you can check your credit card if there is an amount posted for the upgrade bid, even though you got no notification. It posted a couple hours after I received my notification.

Same issue happened with me. Placed a bid for J on a YYZ-YVR flight. Now being 45hrs away from departure, no email notification nor charge on CC. Also, on the "Modify an Offer" page, my offer still shows as "Pending".

That would make it Dec 20... which YYZYVR flight, exactly? AC101 or AC103?

skymath Dec 18, 2019 9:12 am

Correct - Dec 20: AC101. Also, strangely, I was not able to use eups for this flight (Aeroplan Fixed-Mile Reward), calling AC @ T-72 hrs, they said eups were not being allowed on this flight likely due to the holiday season.

I don't know what EF was showing at the T-48 hour mark, but this is what EF is currently showing:

AC 101 YYZ 12/20/19 7:00 YVR 12/20/19 8:59 789
Daily

J1 C1 D0 Z0 P0 R0 O2 E0 N0 Y9 B9 M9 U9 H9 Q9 V0 W0 G0 S0 T0 L0 A0 K0

skymath Dec 18, 2019 9:16 am

Around T-60 I checked it to be J2.

"Not being allowed"? Do you mean that they could only waitlist you because there was no space available to upgrade at that time, or they wouldn't even let you request an upgrade? The former would absolutely make sense, but I've never heard of the latter (provided the ticket/fare is eligible).

skymath Dec 18, 2019 9:23 am

No - the latter - not able to request an upgrade at all. Ticket/fare was eligible (X booking class, and tried at just after T-72, and a few times thereafter to upgrade). Rep on the phone said I should have been eligible to upgrade as well.

What the agents told you here is wrong.

eUpgrades for X class bookings are allowed at T-72 while the Amadeus changes are happening. I talked to about 6 agents trying to upgrade a few X class bookings and 4 of them told me it wasn't possible because their internal charts don't say it is possible until T-24. I spoke to 2 supervisors and forwarded them the email we got regarding the changes...
