What the agents told you here is wrong.
eUpgrades for X class bookings are allowed at T-72 while the Amadeus changes are happening. I talked to about 6 agents trying to upgrade a few X class bookings and 4 of them told me it wasn't possible because their internal charts don't say it is possible until T-24. I spoke to 2 supervisors and forwarded them the email we got regarding the changes... |

Did those eUpgrades end up going into the system? Any advice for how to get around this error in the meantime?
Other then being persistent on the phone, something that may help is to call the "All Other Area's" priority contact rather than the North America one. Those agents seemed to have a better idea of what to do from my limited experience... Good luck! |
booked N class on GVA-YUL Feb 3, and put in a bid of CAD 715 to upgrade to business. Any views on chances of success and appropriateness of amount ? and I guess this has been answered before, mileage credit will be for N or for business if successful ? Afraid I might guess the answer. thx

If there are unsold seats (J>0), it does not mean that those unsold seats would go to upgrade bidders before eUpgrade requesters. |

It has been reported here more than once by different posters that AC would decline upgrade bids but saved those unsold seats as free eUpgrade to higher tier flyers instead. I have personally experienced such a situation more than once.
If there are unsold seats (J>0), it does not mean that those unsold seats would go to upgrade bidders before eUpgrade requesters. However, if they don't sell them, you can't waitlist a bid at the gate, so they go to the waitlisted eUps. |
Spouse and I were booked on two different itineraries. YYZ-YVR Jan 6. Put in bid for PY of $260 for both, which was the minimum bid at the time. One right after the other. Only one was accepted. For the second, was offered LMU of $292 (plus tax I think while the bid upgrade is inclusive of tax.)

Nope, though the original fares were booked by my company's corporate travel agency so I'm wondering if that had any impact. I submitted the bids with my own personal info and credit card though, as my company does not pay for upgrades.

It's not that they're saving them for eUpgrades. They're saving them for sale.
However, if they don't sell them, you can't waitlist a bid at the gate, so they go to the waitlisted eUps. J=5 according to EF which I was monitoring from about T-50h just before my bid was rejected, and remained unchanged up to check-in opened. No LMU was offered for purchase. The equipment was an A320 with 12 J seats. So the flight was about 58% filled. It was apparent that those 5 unsold J seats were deliberately held back from upgrade bidders and any potential LMU purchasers for any true last minute J purchasers and eUpgrade purpose. 5 flyers were upgraded from the waitlist as per the App. |

In that case, LMU should be offered for sale at check-in but it was not.

LMU is not always offered at check-in when J>0; walkups can and do occur within T-24.
My point was, there has been reported situations where the no. of unsold seats may not necessarily be a good indicator of the chance of success. In one of my experience, the flight was 58% full, no bid was accepted and no LMU was offered for sale. All 5 seats went to eUpgrade waitlist. It was a clear case that those seats were deliberately held back and we can speculate on the reason but it is irrelevant. AC made a business decision. Some would agree, some would not! |
Hi, would appreciate some advice. I have a trip in economy class from Haneda to Toronto on Air Canada on 26 January 2020. What is a reasonable price to submit to upgrade to premium economy? Thanks.

I imagine the answer is yes so apologies if this is a stupid question but if you purchase preferred seats and win a bid do they proactively refund the seat purchase fee or do you have to chase it afterwards.
Flying YUL-NCE and debating whether or not to bid for PE or J. I have 35A which seems more than OK for short TATL flight but I may put in a low bid and see. |
