This is generally a problem in most industries: over reliance on technology as authority rather than tool.

Denying a service is a false negative. I'd say in general, err on the side of customer service, discretely note the details and report to resolve the administrative problems on the backend without involving the customer... and just eat the $50 lounge fee or whatever it is.

What I find interesting is when the agent decides to ignore the menu option to sell upgrades, etc... essentially the human assuming the system is presenting a false positive.http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/26426899-post89.html

This is also a reason why planes crash.

What's interesting is, it is in the failure of the engineering of the technology to foresee future failure modes that leads to failure of technology... so in essence the liability transfers to the designer/engineer, a human?

Autonomous drones have this deontological finger pointing problem.

I just hope they find some improvement for the future from this incident.
Not gonna happen, this is a low priority for AC/AE

Tried to do it at the kiosk this morning.

Says I'm not allowed because my flight is not eligible for mileage accrual.

You are not and certainly cannot add your Aeroplan # at OLCI or at a kiosk.
Already sent you an email.

You can't add the FQTV #s to Aeroplan tickets. The other field is FQTS

It's FQTR, not FQTS, according to every agent's screen I've seen

However, AC claims it's possible.

I'm actually going to start running into this issue quite a bit later this year, as I plan to travel on miles from someone else's account.

Nothing on FT is going to convince me that every Aeroplan PNR I've looked at on an agent's terminal did not say FQTR

Just because something's on the internet doesn't mean it's correct

Regardless of what the field is called, it's remarkable that AC issues a communication that you can add your Aeroplan number to a reward booking at OLCI when you evidently can't.

It's worse than that.

I watched an agent attempt to do it.

The go to the "Add FQTV" option (or something like that), enter the number, and it gives an error.

UA has changed policies now so swapping FF numbers cannot be done very easily online any more. However, their agents can EASILY do it. Whereas on AC, it just doesn't work.

Last year,I booked an aeroplan ticket using my mother's Aeropeso. The agent can not add my A3 number on the ticket at the airport, luckily it was a J ticket so I get lounge access and other bennies.
