*FAQ:
Q: On the 787-9 (789), which seats in J are missing windows?
A: Rows 5 and 8 on both port and starboard sides have only one window, instead of two on all other port/starboard J seats.

Q: On the 787-8 (788), which seats in J are missing windows?
A: Only row 5 port and starboard sides have zero windows.

Q: Does the middle J seats' middle divider come down?
A: No, on the 788 and 789 the middle divider does not come down and is fixed in place. In fact, all Dream Cabin (788, 789, 77L, 77W) middle dividers are fixed and do not come down.

Air Canada tips new Brisbane-Vancouver route for Boeing 787
There has been so much talk from AC re: 2nd destination in Oz ........ Let's see if this holds true.
Hard to imagine an airline rep would say "We'd like to go to X, but we'll have to go to Y first until we have enough 'X-capable' frames."
Further, if they want to go to MEL with the -9, but go to BNE with the -8, Will BNE cannibalize some of the MEL market? Cannot image AC serving SYD, BNE, and MEL separately.

This was posted in Feb - so far from new news.
Thanks for the correction.
I had reviewed the Airline Route page with Air Canada updates that I was reading and did not see the 789 post.

The article also talks about more 787-8 coming online, but the remainder of the -8 orders have been converted to -9, so they'd have to be swapping an existing -8 route if they want the equipment for BNE.

This makes me so happy! Never again will Canadians have to endure the terminal transfer mess at SYD or LAX on their way to the sunshine state! Fingers crossed for the official announcement

Yes I talk to lots of other passengers who endure the dreaded shuttle to/from the domestic terminal in SYD.Many passengers on inbound and outbound flights are heading to or from MEL and BNE.
I'm always embarrassed going through my home airport of SYD.The contrast between it and YVR is just chalk and cheese.
One is setup as an airport, the other a retail mall.

UA flys a 787-900 LAX-MEL 7900mi,
AC flys a 787-900 YVR-MEL 8200mi

Or AC could fly its 777-200lr to MEL and fly the 787-900 to Sydney.
Interesting AC 787-9 has 298 seats and the 777lr has 250 seats, so I think it would make more sense to send more seats to SYD, even of the passenger comfort will be nasty on the 787-9

United has 50 less seats on its 787-9 than AC, so AC might have a range problem.

YVR-BNE is only 7360mi, but that cant be that big passenger route from Vancouver.

However the other problem might be AC does not have passenger rights for all the passengers that fit in a 787-900 to Australia? I am sure someone on this forum will have some information on that.

AC is limited to 3000 seats per week. The 77L has 270 seats or 1890/week but the seat count of the 77L will be increasing to 300 or 2100/week. Whatever city is added next can't be a daily operation unless the bilateral is amended.

Just got an itin change notice that the YYZ-YVR leg of my AP reward flight got downgraded from the 787-9 to a 321. (Flight 169 in August)
Perhaps a delay in delivery? or AC changed their mind where to first deploy them? Sucks, whole family is in J and was looking forward to that leg, now I don't even get a pod

Edit: Looks like it was moved to the 10:00 flight (AC105) Even if AP would change the flight for free, not sure if its worth an extra 3hrs in YVR.

I would prefer PER as I have to go there, but I can live with BNE!

YVR-PER I think is too far for any aircraft

BNE and SYD have easy access to PER though.

787-9 is range of 9,600 miles, actual YVR - PER is 9,215. While possible it's pretty damn close. And the flight time would be 17hr 57min.

Airplanes don't have range, they have endurance. With headwinds to Australia, PER would be pushing the envelope.

totally agree, not just headwinds! If they have to divert for a tropical storm, runway closure when they get there not being able to divert, for many reasons it's pushing the envelope. Kinda what I meant by technically possible but really close.
