*FAQ:
Q: On the 787-9 (789), which seats in J are missing windows?
A: Rows 5 and 8 on both port and starboard sides have only one window, instead of two on all other port/starboard J seats.

Q: On the 787-8 (788), which seats in J are missing windows?
A: Only row 5 port and starboard sides have zero windows.

Q: Does the middle J seats' middle divider come down?
A: No, on the 788 and 789 the middle divider does not come down and is fixed in place. In fact, all Dream Cabin (788, 789, 77L, 77W) middle dividers are fixed and do not come down.

Couple traveling together in J on 789. Would you recommend the middle seats, or is there some disadvantage of these seats? Thank you.

Looks like one of the 787-9s will be going a YVR-TPAC cycle in September.

Source: http://airlineroute.net/2015/06/12/ac-asia-sep15/

Air Canada in late-September 2015 plans to operate Boeing 787-9 aircraft on flights to Asia, on one-time basis. This includes service to Seoul, Shanghai, and Tokyo Narita, which will temporary replace -8.

Toronto – Tokyo Narita 24SEP15 from Toronto 28SEP15 from Tokyo
Vancouver – Seoul Incheon 26SEP15 from Vancouver, 27SEP15 from Seoul
Vancouver – Shanghai Pu Dong 25SEP15 from Vancouver, 26SEP15 from Shanghai
Vancouver – Tokyo Narita 25SEP15 from Tokyo, 27SEP15 from Vancouver

I don't know if its a 788 availability issue, a tiny peak in traffic, a real world performance analysis run, or just for fun.

I wonder why they do this? Just to make sure there are no bugs on the ground that might come up?

Boeing is currently promoting the vertical take-off capability of this aircraft in advance of the Paris Air Show:

I saw that. Can it do that with a full load?

Ignoring, of course, the effect on passengers

I mean if you build it powerful enough to fly with fuel, passengers, baggage, and cargo, I'd expect it to be VERY overpowered when empty. But "wow, it can do so much stuff when empty" isn't very useful.

Maybe trying to overcome Tim Clark's comments about insufficient thrust of the 787-10.

That is the question I was asking. It looks like they are throwing it into a TPAC cycle (The 788 fins cycle between TPAC and TATL). Given the similarities between the 788/789, I don't think its de-bugging.

I'm thinking that they have a buffer between delivery and the new 787-9 specific routes, so they might as well put it through its paces. If there's a delay on delivery, they aren't impacted. It might also be an opportunity for real world cost analysis by comparing against data accumulated on frequent 787-9 route.

And as usual, with this opinion and $2, you can get a cup of coffee at Tims....

787 Schedule Updates (2016)

Some 787 route updates for Winter 2016:

Between January and March 2016, 787-8 replaces 767 on YYC-LHR
AC850 YYC1840 1010+1LHR 788 x1
AC850 YYC1930 1100+1LHR 788 1

AC851 LHR1330 1530YYC 788 D

Between March and April 2016 787-9 operates 1x daily YYZ-LHR, YYZ-PVG
Toronto London Heathrow
AC856 YYZ1930 0625+1LHR 789 D
AC869 LHR0900 1300YYZ 789 D

Toronto Shanghai Pu Dong
AC087 YYZ1330 1600+1PVG 789 D
AC088 PVG1750 1930YYZ 789 D

Nice to see the 787 operate the Calgary - London route! I assume this is very much subject to change, particularly for the 787-9 flights to LHR/PVG, where actual frequencies will likely be updated.

Agreed! I've heard good things and would like to check out the 787 but I'm not willing to take a circuitous routing just to do so.

What is the best way to search for flights (besides ac.com) that are flying routes with the 788 or 789? Are they still doing any domestic routes with the 788?

I like the YYC-LHR - just because I'm in YYC now

IMHO there is no advantage to a couple in the middle seats. There is still a divider though you are close enough to talk. I would prefer being across the aisle where you could just walk over. Others might have a different opinion.

Sounds like all competition deiven.....in this case, I should not expect 788 YYC-NRT flights for long time.

Still glad to see YYC-LHR 788 scheduled, even into 2016. Perhaps this is purely due to no major AC 788 deliveries in 2015.

There are no more 788s coming. All 789s from now on.

Personally, I would take the middle seats if travelling with someone else. Even though there is a divider, you both face the same direction which is why I don't like them for flying alone. The 777 classic pods have your heads close together but facing the opposite direction. Just my opinion .
