*FAQ:
Q: On the 787-9 (789), which seats in J are missing windows?
A: Rows 5 and 8 on both port and starboard sides have only one window, instead of two on all other port/starboard J seats.
Q: On the 787-8 (788), which seats in J are missing windows?
A: Only row 5 port and starboard sides have zero windows.
Q: Does the middle J seats' middle divider come down?
A: No, on the 788 and 789 the middle divider does not come down and is fixed in place. In fact, all Dream Cabin (788, 789, 77L, 77W) middle dividers are fixed and do not come down.

789 Video from Boeing - 3 views
Fantastic "Choose your feature" from Boeing
Not just the spectacular exterior video, but also from inside the cockpit.
https://www.youtube.com/user/Boeing/ChooseYourView
As Business insider's headline says:
"This cool YouTube feature takes Boeing's awesome stunt video to a whole new level"
"Which why, last week, Boeing released a video of the company's test pilots on a practice run at Moses Lake in Central Washington. The routine in the practice run is identical to the one the team's Boeing 787-9 performed for the crowds and potential buyers at the show.
Even better, Boeing has uploaded second version of the video using YouTube's new Choose Your View feature. This time, the video not only captures the Dreamliner's flight from multiple angles, it also allows the viewer to instantly toggle back and forth between views.
According to Boeing, the company filmed the multiple angles by mounting cameras throughout the cockpit in addition to the external footage shot from a helicopter."

The speed set by the FO for autopilot during maneuvers was 175 kts. That seems really slow for what is essentially a very aggressive nose up manuever. I get that they don't want to fly far away for views but it seems awfully slow given the fact that they'd probably be shedding airspeed very very quickly. Then again the plane was empty so perhaps the engine power was sufficient to maintain 175kts despite X' nose up?
Either way, that Youtube video = HOLY AWESOME!! The flight deck views = sexy beast!
Also: The pilots look so calm!!

Disappointing 787 Dreamliner experience in Business
Just flew on the AC 787-800 in business. Wanted to share some thoughts in case they prove useful to anyone, both about the 787 and about AC int'l business class to Europe. Overall a mixed review I suppose.
AC 787 Experience:
--Extreme galley noise. The "walls" seem to be paper thin, and row 1 is a absolute 'no'. Otherwise all of the seats are identical (no extra leg cutouts in row 1, for example)
--Window tinting is a great idea but a challenge to keep out light. Rather than with shades where one can "sneak a peak" to outside daylight in a dark cabin, the dream liner's giant windows allow light to flood in when un-tinting. Wish they had a master control to blackout the windows during the flight to prevent this.
--TVs are enormous, crystal clear, and awesome. Safety presentation was done manually though, which was odd I thought, rather than through the TVs.
AC Int'l Business Experience:
--Food was no bueno. Such a disappointment honestly. Salad was completely plain, bread was bland, desert consisted of half melted ice cream. No soup. Fish was pretty good though, as was the espresso. Wine and bar menu was abysmal. I looked up the wines and they were all $8-12 a bottle, and it was frustrating that there was no vintage printed on the menu. The sparkling wine was so sweet it was undrinkable, and the Chardonnay was just undrinkable period. The food I had on my transborder flight on an E90 was honestly far better!
--Amenity kit was also a let down! No slippers, mini-mini toothpaste, and kind of a useless magnetic cloth case. 1st world problems, I know, but compared to other business class kits, this one was sub-par.
--Seat was very comfortable, but extremely narrow. Not designed for stomach sleepers, though I find few are.
--Center seats have no air vents, and the cabin was HOT. That was frustrating, especially given the thick blanket provided.
Also, what can I say about YYZ other than 'ugh', which really hurts AC as far as I'm concerned as a desired connection point.

Sums it up pretty well.
Note that they serve "sparking wine" pre-departure (agree - yuk) but the Drapier champagne served when airborne is pretty decent.

Bummer, I did not notice that. I was actually excited for the Drapier champagne since it got some decent reviews, but didn't realized they subbed in something else while on the ground. That explains it though. I figured they just called it sparkling wine rather than champagne.

How did you not know?
Did you not look at the menu. In addition to the pages with the meal services and snacks, there is an entire page with the list, including the champagne, white wines, red wines and port
Also, exactly which flight were you on?

Why would someone new to AC know they serve an unlisted mystery bubbly product prior to departure but then the real thing once airborne?

Did you let the SD or a FA know? AC FA's/SD's are very good about dealing with temperature issues! But yes I agree. Center seats = suck b/c of no air vents

Because he was served sparkling wine prior to departure and would have said to himself something along the lines of "good grief this Drapier stuff is awful - how does it even pass for champagne" and moved onto something else.

It is unfortunate that keloutwest had a negative experience, whether it be the "mystery bubbly", the food, the melted ice cream, the disappointing amenity kits, the lack of air vents over the centre seats......
I had no idea what food or beverage was to be served when I first started flying my TPAC routes on the 788. I was handed a menu and I looked at it. On every one of the last 12 of these flights, I was either given the menu just before or just after the juice etc offered after boarding.

The safety videos take about 6 minutes. Sometimes if a short taxi is expected a manual demonstration is done. It's a lot quicker (2 minutes) and gets you in the air and on your way faster. Of course, sometimes an expected short taxi can unexpectedly be made longer due to atc delays that aren't known until just before take-off.

Good to know this for next time, but can anyone explain why they do this? To trick people and save money by pouring as little real champagne as possible?

Correct. As the "mystery bubbly" was not reflected on the wine list, I had no way to realize that it was not Drapier.

No. This has to do with not being able to serve liquor while still on the ground.
I think this can best be explained by either an AC rep or SD who participate here (or perhaps an AC FTer).
And I guarantee you, it also is NOT about serving as little as possible. Eg. once that champagne is opened in flight, if there is any left at the end of the flight, it is thrown out.
