On friday I was boarding my final leg, yvr-yyj on a new q400. Priority boarding was called, there were 5-10 of us elite louse. I was second in line to present my boarding documents, and someone comes up, tries cut me off and asks me "are you altitude?" Before I can answer someone in the lineup behind me pipes up "we are."

I found that a little strange. The short flights out of C gates at YVR don't have priority boarding lanes so maybe he had just arrived...

Likely. I've also had to cut off people (using priority lanes) on RapidAir YYZ-YOW when a tight connection (or if I'm just running late.) There's a line of economy out the door and I saunter up... usually get the evil eye, and then one lady once asked me, "Are you business class?" to which I replied, "I'm not, but I'm Altitude" and was promptly waved over by the GA.

If you think giving someone Tim Bits is a form of tipping, try tipping a bartender with them instead of money. And then come back the next day to see how it went over.

Except that in the original thread it is not tipping. It's an unexpected expression of appreciation in a situation where there is no direct financial transaction between the two individuals.
