Just another side note, it seems you get 1000 points for creating an online cibcaventura.com profile - now needing only 4000 points in the first year for 20000 miles. However, it may be more beneficial to actually spend that 20000 points on a free longhaul NA roundtrip - and earn miles on it.

Will serve well as a backup MC to my AMEX where the latter is not taken

I can answer that - NO. I just sign-up and login, no bonus and also no signup bonus (15000) either. Hopefully the bonus will post at the same time as the statement get cut.

I keep getting the following error message:

Does not match information provided to CIBC Credit Card Services
Your Aventura profile was not created. Please review your profile details and try again.
I am not sure why I'm getting this, since it's all pretty straightforward. The only thing I question is the line that says "Full Name" (which seems odd since they've already asked for your first and last names). I presume this is your name as it appears on your credit card. Can anyone confirm?

TIA

MG, I got that the first time too - then I actually signed up for CIBC banking online - I never had any dealings with CIBC before this - and then went back, and it worked.

It was indeed name as it appears on card.

Also, no bonus here - and no 15,000 bonus - after 2 purchases

i got the 15k welcome bonus in my first statement, also see the $120 annual fee charged and an annual fee rebate for the same amount, no cause for panic if you signed up online but haven't seen the welcome points of 15k

for the cibc bonus rewards, based on the FAQ from their website seems like i won't get my bonus points till the next month, guess i'll have to wait for my next statement

I'm sitting on the fence with this transferring 10K rule.. I like the offer, but am concerned about the flexibility of transferring points, and the resulting slippage of points earned as a result..

That's good that you've got 1,000 bonus points and it worked.^

I also got the same message, so I called CIBC and they said that its because the account is new; I activated the card yesterday. They told me to wait a few days and try again.
I don't have a CIBC bank account.

I signed up a couple of days ago and logged in immediately. There were something like 600 points (the amount I have spent on the card)

Today I went back in and there is aroun 1700 so I assumed the difference is the +1000 points bonus.. Haven't got the 15K yet but that's ok, haven't got the first statement yet. No worries.
