Thanks Suggs99 ^ , very useful to know as the Mercure Reading is a hotel to avoid at all costs IMO.

Hi BotB
No problem, I have actually used all three Accor in Reading, The Mecure, the Ibis and the Novotel. whats your experience of the the Mecure? apart from the old rooms, dated furniture? Never getting an upgrade? etc

I appreciate it is a very old building and has limitations. I tend to like character buildings actually and so sometimes prefer Mercure over Novotels....however, the Reading Mercure was truly a scene out of a horror film for me.

Very small, dark, cheaply fitted out room with a lumpy old mattress on a single bed. Sheets and pillow were dirty and previously slept in I swear. The bathroom was mouldy and had fixtures that came off in my hand... (upgrade he says...HA, thanks, that was a good laugh! None to speak of to be sure!)

I did get good platinum recognition funnily enough, even a couple of drink vouchers. Front desk staff was pleasant enough. Check in experience was good.

Location is very good for nearby restaurants or pubs but not so great for driving to be sure. Nightmare trying to get to the parking garage they use and hotel is in pedestrian only zone so had to find that out first...

Breakfast was so terrible that it is the single time I have walked into a breakfast area of a hotel, picked up a plate, looked around, put the plate back down and walked out to go eat elsewhere (even though I had paid in advance for it). Dirty dishes, counters, empty food trays and a combative staff member were enough.

Have to say, I am generally quite easily pleased I think but I won't go back there even if someone pays me to, which is quite sad really. Strong words but strongly felt on my part (and the only place I have been that I feel is so poor). It was considerably cheaper than other hotels for Reading and I should have known for a reason. TA had terrible reviews but I decided to give it a try anyway...No more. The Novotel sounds good from your review or the nearby Hilton.

Remember how it feels to get more what you expect
More dirt than expected
More mould in the bathroom than expected
More occasion to try another place for breakfast than expected

- What is your Le Club status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Just about, yes.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked normal room, received exactly that due to full house ("confirmed" via online booking not yielding any availability for most of February!)

- How are the rooms?
Small-ish but practical, very new, hence modern and good outfittings (nice shower with constant temperature, plugs right next to the bed on each side)

- What was good and what was bad?

Good:
- rooms
- very friendly staff (very apologetic about full house hence no early check-in and no upgrade)

Bad:
- Credit Card payment didn't work at all during the time there, hence had to pay in cash (I declined option of keeping my credit card data to make the payment once it works again)
- nothing in terms of Plat benefits (no offer of free fast internet for example)

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
N/A

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Nothing. Well, they did leave a bottle of cleaner and a roll of trashbags in the toilet, does that count?
However, I also didn't ask about it.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Yeah, very cheap and good room for the price.

Plat

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, got privilege on request

- How are the rooms?
Small but functional

- What was good and what was bad?

Good:
- Very friendly staff
- upgrade granted (after request)
- nice breakfast spread

Bad:
- wrote email beforehand asking about early check in, got no answer
-> was told at check in that my room wasn't ready. When asked about upgrade, receptionist had to inquire with his boss (... ) to then luckily grant me the room upgrade and hence also an early check in since the room was ready. Could have been avoided by just automatically upgrading me at least when seeing that my booked/allotted room wasn't ready yet but one of the better ones was...

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
N/A

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Got two vouchers for welcome drinks, didn't use them.
Coffee machine and free bottle of water in the room. Didn't see a price-list for the minibar (coke, another water, juice), might also be free...

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
booked during private sale, extremely good value for money. Yes, for a night or two pleasant enough.

- Name of the hotel:
Hotel ibis Düsseldorf City

- What is your Le Club status?
Plat

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes, absolutely!

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard (only one room category anyway), but according to floor plan i got a corner room which was much more spacious than the other ones ^.

- How are the rooms?
Spacious, especially the bath! Otherwise old building, "old" rooms, but it felt clean, furniture new-ish.

- What was good and what was bad?

Good:
- Great location right next to train-station
- fastest check-in (10 sec) and check-out (2 sec) I ever had. Superb!
- Very friendly and helpful staff

Bad:
nothing really. Now the Dügida demonstration that evening on the other hand...

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
N/A

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Drink voucher given, didn't use it. As stated, was given a slightly bigger room compared to the other ones.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Definitely. Needed it for one night, and the staff made sure to make it a very pleasant stay (within the limitations of an ibis, of course)

Novotel Marina Gdańsk.

- What is your Le Club status?
Gold.

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard (other room types not available in this particular hotel).

- How are the rooms?
Novotel standard.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good: nice staff; gym; next to the beach (not that it matters at this time of year, however during warmer months that's great location); good running routes; walking distance to bars & clubs in Sopot.
Bad: during winter, there's not much going on and there are not even many shops around.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
NA.

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
I was given a voucher.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Absolutely - I've already been a few times.

- Name of the hotel:
Novotel Warszawa Airport.

- What is your Le Club status?
Gold.

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard→Executive.

- How are the rooms?
Renovation works were carried out back in 2012 (I think) so definitely better than the other Novotel in central Warsaw.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good: a few minutes bus ride from the airport with no noise coming from the airport itself; gym; easy access to city centre; very quiet, especially at weekends; no weirdos roaming at reception hall like in the other Novotel down-town (); swift check-out (again, compared to its sister hotel in Warsaw).

Bad: NA.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
NA.

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
I was given a voucher.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Indeed - I stay in this hotel quite often.

- Name of the hotel:
Ibis Amsterdam Center

- What is your Le Club status?
Plat

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard/Standard (no other room category - however was told that the room we got was to the back and hence a bit bigger with better view.)

- How are the rooms?
Quite modern, typical ibis.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good:
- Very friendly staff (needed something scanned, handed it to them with my email and got the scanned version within 5 minutes)
- good food offers ("take away" with some fruit, yoghurts etc. what one might need before/after a city tour)
- superb location

Bad:
- Very long check-in time (paid part of it with points, that led to the delay i was told)
EDIT: - almost forgot: flyertalk.com seemed blocked?! Only accessible via VPN during my whole stay there! Fearing bad reviews?
- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
N/A

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Welcome drink voucher for 2 (soft drinks, beer)

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Yes, quite good. However it was rather expensive due to some kind of conference during my time. Everything seemed booked out.

Name of the hotel: Novotel Rotorua

- What is your Le Club status?
Gold

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Only just.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Lakeview king. Got lakeview king although did get a corner room. Told no upgrade available when asked.

- How are the rooms?
Need some maintenance but mostly ok

- What was good and what was bad?

Good: Comfortable bed.

Bad: The worst reception experience ever. Unsmiling, unfriendly, completely lacklustre. Had asked on our booking for an early checkin around noon. We arrived at 12.30, told no rooms available. Asked about the early check in we had asked for, and told no its only subject to availability. That's fine, I understand that, but it's all in the delivery. Not provided with welcome drink vouchers. Had to ask. Told that they only give them to their Accor Advantage members. Very grudgingly gave us 2 vouchers. Hopeless staff in the bar as well.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
N/a

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
As mentioned above, no welcome drinks offered, had to ask.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
We used points + cash to pay. I'm hard pressed to say if it was good value. I would never return. I would stay in Taupo instead and drive to Rotorua if I ever needed to go back. Rotorua is a disappointment, - it's been a long time since I was there last. It will be a long long long time (never ) till I return..
