I welcome the hard product. Just woke from a fairly sound five hour sleep. The soft product food now needs help! Seriously. Short rib here and short rib there just does not cut it. Also the mid flight snack service laid out is non existent. It's not hard to get that right. For a 14 hour plus flight it does not even start to work. The flights to KIX have better spread for whatever reason. NOW UA needs to work on the soft product and food.
At least for me it seems bulkhead will be it. Like the larger foot well and surfaces to put things on. They heap so much stuff at the onset of boarding. A simple harder plastic bag with all this stuff put into it in the overhead would be smarter. Then the consumer can put / pull items down or not making way for luggage. There is just too much stuff. Putting things on the dirty floor is just disgusting. But things end up down there as it is. Supposed to return in a few days on UA.
No slack. UA had three mechanics on the plane at SFO when the issue was known and they saw the screens. Their flip answers were unacceptable and they sent us packing with a bum avod system. At least in HKG there will be a Panasonic tech to fix the issue. That's if UA wants to call them.
Sorry. In fairness there are apples and toasted cold sandwiches. Small bottles of water. That is the bare minimal spread. Hardly acceptable in my mind. The HKG staff has been working well with what we have and attentive.

What exactly is the issue with the AVOD? In what cabins?
And I'm guessing the company had their hands tied vis-a-via training with the sUA HKG crew. There's a lot of gymnastics they've been having to jump through, as the 77W transitions from sCO to fully sUA. Annoying, but I'll give them some slack on this one.

I was thinking a larger plastic bag for each passenger to shove bedding in the overhead was a good idea too.
My IFE failed midflight but they were able to reboot it.
I tried both the shrimp + fried rice and grilled cheese + tomato soup hot snacks; both were good. But in terms of other snacks, I've been on PHL-IAD flights that were better catered. Couple wrapped fruits and ramekins of nuts shouldn't cut it for premium transoceanic travel.
The seat is very tight but tolerable. God bless the souls in the back; i don't know how they do it. In Polaris , my knee bumps into the tray. Bulkhead footwells are larger, but the seats and especially the legrest going towards them are narrow so I found my legs rolling off into the void. In non bulkhead seats, the narrowness of the footwell matched that of the seat. I wish everything was like 2" bigger in every direction. I found my legs and arms/hands falling asleep when I was trying to sleep because the tight quarters were cutting off circulation.

about VOD: none of the images load (which makes it harder to pick what to watch) but the video does play
the map just broke for me also...

The HKG based staff had no chance for training on this plane. UA did not even do a mock up in HKG aka galley and a familiarization was only offered for staff when the plane arrives. Why would UA not staff this flight with a US based crew trained on the plane?
The avod issues known about on the ground persist. Shame on UA mechanics at SFO for lame excuses and flip answers. The bird should have had a better check before being pulled to the gate. Sure the press is impressed with their avod also.

BTW, it was nice meeting you finally! Safe Travel!

The Twitter pic shows 15 flight attendants. The usual full international staffing on the 77W with United would be only 12 (6 in the front, 6 in the back). The 3 extra I'm assuming are because their inbound was a 747 staffed with the usual 15.

overall it was a good flight and an improvement over the previous product.... but I am now on my next leg in a CX shiny new A350-900 and the seat and screen and vod and space are so much better...
so I guess if you have to fly united, the new polaris makes it bearable but you probably still want to fly anything else if you can

So they have a much awaited and much hyped inaugural flight and they staff it with an FA crew that has has never seen that aircraft type from the inside before? Or even a simulator? Did they at least put them up at the SFO Holiday Inn Express the night before the flight?

At least one of the persons shown was a SFO based 777 inflight Purser specialist who was helping the HKG based crew with familiarization of plane. She also walked with outside design specialist on the planes hard parts. I don't think the guy on the far right flew with us. I seem to remember a couple times it was announced as 13 FAs.
This is UAs issue. Just a little more effort and you would not have a bad avod. That FA crew was working hard to make up for any shortfalls including never ever having seen that plane before. With all the stuff at the gates they literally saw the inside of the plane three minutes before the paxs.
If a choice or option was available many for fly almost any other Asian carrier in the premium cabin over UA. The hard product is acceptable but not comparable in overall hard and soft product to the Asian carriers we all know best. It is no doubt better than AA, DL, BA and VS in hard product business but that's not saying much.
Good meeting you also and best wishes for attaining your 4MM mark early next year.

I'm sub CO we don't use a sign in sheet. Pretty ridiculous to staff a 366 seat plane with only 12 FAs but hey im not surprised thankfully I never worked the plane when it was assigned sub CO and have zero desire to do so when we finally are merged completely.
