Should I do that now? Or wait?

Sooner the better. The longer you wait, the less flexibility you have to cheaply get that $35 PQD taken care of. Don't know your home airport, but let's say you lived near SFO or LAX. Between now & the end of the year there will be opportunities to book a quick r/t for $150, maybe a bit less. If you wait, that could easily go up to $300, possibly even more for any date that might work out for you.

The only reason to wait would be if you're thinking UA might be more generous when you're more desperate. That's not the way the world usually works.

Another consideration here is hw PQD factors in. Without $10k in PQD getting 100k in PQM is not going to result in 1K status. Purchases of PQM do not count toward PQD.
Thanks. I'm at about 35k or 40k in PQD so that's not an issue at all. I mainly fly C/D tickets to Europe.

I just checked my flight home from LHR for tomorrow and the mileage buy dropped to .1 cpm so I am going to go that option and pick up 12k PQM and just wrap up the issue.

Hopefully this is an easy one for the regulars on here - I just figured I'd post it to make sure I'm not overlooking any options.

Basically I'm going to end up 995 pqm short of gold status at the end of this year. I have an existing reservation from RDU to SFO and back mid-Deceber, but this figures into the shortcoming I mentioned above. Using the accelerator seems to be overkill, since it's offering me a minimum of 5,500 PQM for $600 total.

Would my only other option be to find a quick round-trip flight that's ~1,000 miles and spend a day flying it? If so, any recommendations on what might be the cheapest route departing from RDU? Thanks!

That would be my learned recommendation. Also, please don't count your PQMs before they hatch. Your mid-december flights may not actually fly.

Looking for some suggestions for a cheap mileage run from ORD. Am 2585 short of 100k. Was hoping a ski trip may get me to where I'd like to be but DEN and SLC leave me short. Suggestions welcome and appreciated!

I've been 1k for the last five years. This year I am at 43,600 and I have no more travel planned. I am debating going a mileage run but not sure if it us worth the time and money. Also, I am only 13000 miles away from one million miles which will give me lifetime gold.

So the question, am I being short-sighted not going for gold this year?

Anyone have an idea of how close you need to be before UA looks the other way? I've got 3 more trips before the end of the year. Considering a buy up on one which will put me 52 PQM short of Gold (also assuming CC PQM posts). Is that close enough, or should I consider figuring out how to get a bit more. All my itins are offering either 12k or 15k elite maximizers, so obviously much more than I need.

It's a business trip so I'll get there by one routing or another. A re-route would result in more PQMs. It's also pretty unlikely that either San Francisco or Raleigh would be snowed in, since that doesn't really happen in either place. Joking aside, thanks a ton for your input.

Would it also be the case that I don't actually need to fly the whole 1,000 miles? Don't short flights still credit you with a minimum of 500 PQM each? So if I flew 200 miles each way I'd still end up with 1,000 PQM? Thanks!

Add a connection to the DEN trip. 888+500 x 2 gets you there.

Many business people failed to get to their destinations by any route last December. So, pooh pooh away, Pollyanna.

Gonna be 6600 short of plat this year....most I've ever flow in a year before, pretty sure I won't be able to get the last bit I need. Not even a LAX-JFK-LAX will work for me....

do IAH-NRT-IAH. it can be done in one weekend. I booked a last minute flight two days ago for this weekend at ~$1300 and will earn ~13k PQMs. sCO 772s out of IAH generally have wifi too so you can still be productive

OK, gotta ask... why? 6600 miles after flying that much... there's gotta be a way. Especially out of LAX. Have you looked into any of the cheap fares into SJU? $500 all-in, zero wasted time, more miles than you need but about as efficient as I think you'll find. Weekend of Dec 13-14th. 8,122 PQMs.

Ouch! He needs 6600 miles and you're giving him a 13,000 mile option. Guess that's the "man-up" thing. But mine's not that much shorter...

Aside from wifi, does that 772 also have power? Wifi without power isn't much good on a long flight (although I am looking at a new version of the Thinkpad T440 that can get up to 14 hours...).
