Just finished a two night stay on points there yesterday. Here's some of the highlights:

Applied SNAs and got upgraded to the Setriere Suite without any problem. I had asked about a room with view of the Grand Canal about a month ago and only got offered to pay a slightly discounted room rate - it seems like they are protective of these rooms (as I would expect).

Very easy to get to coming from the train station (just go the ACTV 1 line and get off at the Giglio stop).

Check-in was easy and comfortable with a sit-down area and all the materials pre-assigned and labelled.

Room was gorgeous with Murano glass everywhere, luxurious furniture that was obviously fresh and new even though it had more of an old-time feel (as opposed to a hotel like the St. Regis Rome). It was the most comfortable bed we had in Italy. We had a bottle of wine waiting for us on our arrival. Bathroom had a good amount of space with Aqua Di Parma amenities.

We kept asking for razors along our trip in Italy because we kept forgetting to pack them - the one we got here wasn't as nice as the one from the St. Regis Rome, but it had 2 blades at least. If you need an umbrella, try to get one of the brown Luxury Collection ones (the lime green ones they had a lot of tended to leak).

Concierge service was great - they had good recommendations for restaurants and knew the owners of the nearby restaurants. It was a little weird dropping off our key every time we left, but I guess it felt more "luxury" than having a plastic key card. Our wait time between when we asked for the razor and when we got it was a bit longer than the other hotels we visited on our trip (probably 10 minutes at Gritti vs. what felt like 2 minutes at the STR Rome and Westin Florence), but I'm just nitpicking now.

Breakfast was pretty standard: fruit (very fresh), cheese, cured meats, bread, and cereal out buffet-style. If you wanted eggs or cooked meat like bacon, you just ordered it and took a little longer for it to get to you. Other meals and drinks at the hotel are very expensive (mixed drinks are something like 20 euros a piece at the bar, the lunch pre fixe was something like 65 euros per person).

The bar had a nice musician playing - I think it was guitar - and there was a piano player in the lobby on Saturday. The lounge area was very nice and obviously a lot of work had gone into it. There was aqua alta on both the nights we were there and their new system was pretty cool to see in action. I would also suggest walking along the hallway to the gym where they have letters from celebrities thanking Gritti for their stays - it was neat to spend 2 minutes looking at.

We decided to take a water taxi to the airport when we left because we didn't feel like doing 2 bridges and a 10 minute walk in the rain with our bags. It came right up to the dock and we were easily on our way.

Hi there,

Have a stay booked at the Danieli in May - but thinking of changing over to the Gritti.

Does anyone know how the Platinum benefits compare? I have seen many FTers rave about the free breakfast on the patio at the Danieli, but I see no mention of any Plat benefits at the Gritti.

Any insight would be appreciated!

Yes, and they do very nice eggs made to order. Not only the typical dishes but everything you can think of and can name.

Several SPG Platinum Concierges haven't known if the breakfast is free for Plats or not. I would move my C+P reservation from the Danieli if it was...?

It just re-opened so it's not unusual that there aren't a lot of reports yet regarding the new platinum benefits. Platinums get at least a continental breakfast as one of the amenity options so yes, breakfast will be free for a Platinum member that chooses that for their amenity. In all the european properties I've been to they will give you the full buffet and not merely a continental. So it's my guess that you would get the full buffet breakfast, but at a minimum you would get a continental breakfast.

That said, the Danieli breakfast is amazing and it's hard to imagine the breakfast at Gritti Palace being much better if breakfast is one of your main concerns, but all the European hotels we stayed at had fabulous breakfasts so I would just pick which hotel you want to stay at, and I'm sure you'll be pleased with the breakfast.

I think I'll split my stay in Venice then. 3 nights Danieli and 5 nights Gritti - and report back in early June.

The issue you raised has been discussed two posts above yours. Yes, the platinum breakfast is free and it is the full breakfast including what Americans would call "champagne"

i would love to move my c+p reservation from Hotel Danieli to the Gritti palace too.

unfortunately, there is no availabilty at the Gritti on my dates.

Any advices would be appreciated.

Have only stayed at the Gritti, but breakfast right on the Grand Canal is very nice.

Just completed 1 Night @ The Gritti Palace Venice and was booked into a Sestriere Suite 5 days prior to arrival by utilizing a SNA, original reservation used C+P in a Deluxe Room. This is the best hotel I've stayed at in my life so far. The checkin process was perfect and the employee even let me preview 2 different rooms and let me choose which would be best. I ended up on the 4th floor with a side canal view. I opted for the breakfast as the Platinum amenity which was a full buffet at the restaurant right on the Grand Canal. They offer cooked to order options at no charge as well. The orange juice was the best I had during my trip in Europe. A bottle of red wine complementary was waiting in my suite along with bottles of water for no charge. The Acqua di Parma bath amenities were amazing! All members of the staff were extremely helpful. Highly recommend staying here!

I stayed at this hotel prerenovation and want to return in the next year or two. A canal view is important to me, so I thought I'd do some early research to see what possibilities are, both paid and award.

The lowest category room with a canal view appears to be the Landmark Grand Canal Rooms. I was given a room with this location prerenovation as a platinum upgrade. The cost for a random July date is 1552 euros, nonrefundable.

A platinum concierge gave me the following redemption possibilities:

• Deluxe room (base) - 35K
• Venetian - 36.75K
• Prestige - 37.75K
• Landmark Grand Canal Room - not possible to book with points
• Sestriere Suite - 140K

For those that have not stayed at the Gritti before you will be in for an incredible experience no matter which room you end up in. Do have a look at the May European issue of Architectural Digest for details and brilliant photos of the decor. Plats are treated exceptionally well then again all guests of the Palazzo as GM Paolo Lorenzoni prefers to refer to it are very warmly welcomed to the family home. The living room aka the lobby areas are stunning in their intimacy and detail.
This property now completely outshines the Danieli. Many of the staff have returned and remember returning guests.
