lol. I think that's a great plan.

Please let us know how it works out.

I hope the JW is as nice as the one in Beijing. Haven't stayed at the one in HKG.

lol

The wife mentioned that we should go to Dim Sum one time...well why go out to Dim Sum if we get free breakfast buffet?
So we are NOT going to "pay" for club access.
So the next morning since there's no breakfast at the hotel, we'll go to Dim Sum.

And since we are also staying at the JW, the Grand Hyatt is closer to the JW than the TST location.

=)
This is confusing. Are you staying at the Grand Hyatt HK in a club room or not?

If you are not staying in a club room, you are making a HUGE mistake IMHO!

Just a note the lounge does have breakfast buffet!

you're right, his post is confusing. I assumed they were staying in a club room at the GH and that they would be staying in a regular non-club room at the JW.

Get the club room at the GH. You can always get more points.

Sorry if it is confusing.
I am a Plat with marriott, so I will be staying at the JW for most of the nights (since Im a platinum I get free lounge and breakfast there)

I WAS going to stay at the TST location just to experience a different hotel, I figure the chance of me going back to HK is slim, so I want to experience as much as I can.
I was going to stay in the club level in the TST.

But my wife mentioned that we should go get Dim Sum while in HK.

I thought to myself:
"If we are going to get Dim Sum, then we should not eat breakfast in the hotel. So I should stay at the Hyatt in a regular room instead of the club room" (since we will not get breakfast there)

and my wife told me it is easier to go from the GH to the JW, than it is to go from the TST to the JW.
So I am thinking of staying at the GH instead.

But it sounds like the club room is really worth it at the GH.

If I get a club room with my points (since I dont have status with Hyatt), how does their breakfast buffet compare to getting dim sum outside?

Thanks

You can always have Dim sum for lunch.

It is a mini-buffet style breakfast (30-40 dishes instead of 60 thus the mini).

The allure of the club lounge isn't just the breakfast, it is also the pre-dinner cocktail, and the View from the club lounge itself.

As I recall, they only have one or two types of dim sum in the club room, and it's fairly ordinary dim sum by local standards. So it wouldn't replace a real dim sum meal. If you're staying at the GH hotel, walk over a few blocks to where the trollies run and catch a trolley to Happy Valley. Get off at the end of the line and walk a few minutes to this restaurant:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restauran...Hong_Kong.html

What's nice about this place is that it is open until 10pm and serves only dim sum (you order from a menu, not from a cart). So you can have a great dim sum dinner, and the waiting time is short or non-existent then as well. That also solves your problem with club access.

Eating dim sum from a cart is the proper way to go. It is just like eating Fish n Chips off newspaper.

My 2 cents.

Sadly like eating Fish n Chips off newspaper, the cart is slowly fading out.

Yes it is.

Since you will still be able to take advantage of evening appetizers, cocktails, etc even if you skip their breakfast, it's still worth the extra points.

Enjoy!

I just stayed at the HK Grand, and I have to say that the evening buffet is amazing enough to replace a dinner at a restaurant (especially if you've had a late dim sum lunch due to a great club room breakfast buffet and you're just going to bed early due to morning travel or jet lag). Oh, and don't forget that the cocktails include nice French Champagne and wine.

Just completed a one-night award stay here on points. Room was on the 23rd floor, huge bathroom, facing the harbor (amazing view!), service was impeccable. Breakfast buffet in the morning was good, pretty much all western/european food choices. Didn't try the happy hour snack time, although frankly there's no point in eating in the hotel (other than lounge bkfst). Amazing, affordable food options are plentiful in Hong Kong!

Would definitely stay here again.

* If you have no idea where to go, the iSquare mall has lots of tasty restaurants.
** If you are taking the free Airport Express shuttle connection from Kowloon, the HR TST is the 2nd stop. Recommend taking a taxi back to the Kowloon station from HR, unless you enjoy sitting through the other 4-5 hotel stops on the shuttle connection bus.

no availability during CNY

Is it really sold out or just inventory is blocked?

Was looking at 22-27jan.

Thanks.

That's Chinese New Year this year, so very likely sold out.

Need more drawers!

One of the down side of this nice property is that they have 2 tiny drawers next to the safe/fridge. This is perfectly fine if you are doing a short stay here and/or you are good with living out of suitcase(s).

Hi Thomas831 and welcome to FT. Very thorough review. I am disappointed that the hotel tried to pull the dynamic currency exchange scam on you at check-out (this is a topic much discussed on FT). They didn't even suggest that to me when I stayed there a few months ago. But at least they asked first and you had the good sense to turn them down!
